Nikita Hand did that. In 2018, Conor McGregor raped her in a Dublin hotel. She was left shaken, crying and severely bruised.
A forensic examiner also said she had a 9cm scratch on her left breast and he had to use forceps to remove a tampon she had been wearing the previous night because it became 'wedged inside'.
In 2024, a jury decided Conor McGregor was legally responsible for the rape and Nikita was given €248,000 in damages.
She told her story. And then she had to watch her rapist get invited on TV, celebrated, applauded and treated like a star.
The problem is not that women don't report. The problem is that society keeps showing survivors that even when they come forward, powerful men can still be protected, promoted, and given a platform.

He's the only one who ever laughs at his jokes; I saw a bit of him interviewing somebody a few days ago (don't remember who, I hate him) and they zoomed out to show the audience which looked no bigger than the size of a small movie theater that shows a movie that's been in theaters for WAY too long - and it wasn't even full... And hardly anybody laughed at his BS, he barely got a muffled laugh from the audience.

Criminal court requires "beyond a reasonable doubt" for their verdict where civil doesn't. District attorneys may decide that there's not enough evidence to secure a verdict so they don't take the case. Similar story behind OJ not being guilty of murder criminally but being found liable for murder in the civil case.

Correct. In Irish law at least (I assume this is true in a lot of countries but I'm not familiar enough with them to say for sure) criminal conviction requires beyond reasonable doubt but civil cases require the jury decide on balance of probability.

Our Director of Public Prosecutions (analogous to a District Attorney I guess?) decided there was insufficient evidence to secure a conviction and they're the ultimate arbiter as to whether or not a case is put forward for trial. Criminal convictions are based on criminal law which doesn't automatically include financial compensation for damages but Civil cases do. You'll often see criminal and civil cases happen in close succession here.

So while the DPP decided not to press ahead (an insane decision imo given the witness and expert testimony available) Ms Hand was well within her rights to pursue him civilly and that court decided that on balance of probability (a lower standard than criminal court) McGregor had raped her so imagine the fucking shock when a national pariah appeared on US TV having the craic.

The state has to choose to prosecute and many times, due to political/ public opposition or just because they think they can't win or they're lazy, they will just not charge a person especially in cases of sexual assault or rape

Having a single court responsible for saying "He's not guilty beyond reasonable doubt so we're not sending him to jail but on balance of probability he totally fucking did it so we're going to award you a quarter million in damages" would be a complete mess.

Why society questions survivors more than it questions the men being accused? That one is simple.
Because someone accused of crime is innocent until the guilt is proven. Praesumptio innocentiae is one of the main pillars of justice. Rape is not always easy to proof. And the cases when someone rich is accused and there is no hard evidence always raise a question of fraud.

I've known far too many people, mainly mainly women and girls, but some guys, who'd been raped or otherwise assaulted sexually, and got the TEXTBOOK treatment of "Why were you there? What were you wearing? Etc." bullshit. That cuts DEEP, especially at such an indescribably vulnerable moment, and of course the natural reaction is to want to never open up to that kind of potential hurt ever again.

Probably because the scenario when someone meets a stranger in the dark alley and gives them valuables totally voluntarily for nothing in exchange is quite unlikely. Theoretically possible. But unlikely.
On the other hand, people are having sex consensually more often than not. And situation when some person approaches another person to exchange sex for material benefits is also not uncommon.
Different scenarios, different treatments.

Like the only things he said is that people are innocent until proven guilty and proving guilt in a rape case is often difficult.
