I Hope At Least One Of These Makes You Smile

Aug 6, 2026 9:48 AM

Hi Imgur! Not a boomer but a Gen Xer here. I included this meme in a post yesterday because I thought it was a good commentary on how things have changed for parents trying to educate their kids on sexuality and being respectful of others. A lot of people saw it as transphobic and hateful. I never would have posted it if I saw that meaning in it. I still don't understand how this singles out any group or specific orientation. Things are definitely more complicated now and that's the message I saw in this meme.
I'm all about freedom of choice. Live your life the way that makes you happy as long as you're not actively trying to hurt others. I don't know how to be any more respectful yet I still get labeled as hateful.
I don't care about upvotes or downvotes, I'm looking for communication not an argument. Help an aging, confused Imgurite understand. What's hateful or transphobic about this post?

I support your view. Pointing out things are complicated doesn't mean you're being hateful.

Thank you. There's nothing hateful about that post.

Just in case...

I always find it hilarious when people assume the birds and the bees are some kind of genital analogue, when the reasoning behind the saying is the birds and bees come back in the spring, which coincides with mating season for domestic livestock. The bees aren't fucking the birds, you noodles!

beestiality...?? I mean...it was right there.

My take: a boomer joke that could easily be construed as transphobic. Don't let it ruin your day.

Thanks for the comment. I really didn't see it as transphobic. Parents today definitely have a harder job educating their kids than they did decades ago. It's a lot more complex. I certainly didn't post it to be transphobic. I just don't understand how people are seeing hatred in this post but your the first to offer an explanation. Thank you. Sorry if I offended by posting it.

I think it's trying to be inclusive, but not knowing how

Thanks for that. I had no idea people would see it as transphobic. I still don't understand how it's offensive to anybody.

It's in the same humor line as transphobic jokes. Think the "I identify as ..." jokes that didn't sound transphobic but ultimately undermine the idea of self realization/ identification by belittling it.
