This was the conversation...
...that spawned this comic...
...which was technically about this man (Al Bean)...
...who was portrayed by Dave Foley...
...in the best episode of the series From the Earth to the Moon...
...which was the brain child of Tom Hanks...
...who once paid for everyone's meal at a Fontana, California In-N-Out burger!
FP Edit: If you're a space nerd like me, you might really enjoy the series "From the Earth to the Moon". It's godawful boring in some episodes but it really shows off how much of a space nerd Tom Hanks is, and I thought that was just too sweet.
DukeDarkwood
OK, that was worth the ride.

From Wendy's to the Moon to Hanks to Spaceballs... wild ride and I loved it! Thanks for posting!
SoulN8
jmotolaw
Perfectly placed.
BlindGardener
I honestly couldn't tell you the FIRST person to walk on the moon without googling. Yuri Gagrin? Alan Shepard? One of those two.
AttilaTheHung
The 4th man on the Moon?
jansenart
Alan Bean! Pete Conrad, his mentor, recruited him for Apollo 12 after Cliff Williams bought the farm.
railgap
When I was a kid, we had a Time-Life publication which was a book and companion set of LP records with loads of cool recordings, same title.

I can't see anything with Wendy's Twitter without thinking of this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_5Q9LwhujU
Longbowgun
Same.
MoltarsGhost
Just a reminder that brands are not your friend, and clever twitter accounts are just youth targeted ads.
Xcallion1
I don't eat fast food at all, but I can still appreciate humor.
FitzFarseer
#1 ok but you didn’t include the follow up Wendy’s tweet which says that Hardy’s blocked them lol
jansenart
It wasn't in that particular time frame on Twitter, that I could find anyway.
FitzFarseer
Huh, I’ve always seen that as the follow up. Has the internet lied to me??
DragonflyTea
I love this post.
jansenart
I mean you say that, but did you favorite it?
DragonflyTea
I upped all my votes.
nacklemurnig
And Tom Hanks was in Apollo 13 with Kevin Bacon. 5 degrees.
thisiscatman
Yeah but did he ever write a paper with Paul Erdos?
Technotoad64
Wendy's about to bring out the Kevin Baconator
IDontKnowWhatToDoAnymoreAndImTired
Incidentally, From The Earth To The Moon compliments Apollo 13 really well; their episode on Apollo 13 focused on the media speculation...
IDontKnowWhatToDoAnymoreAndImTired
Rather than the situation on-board. The two go great together.
TwoCheese
Dude Wendy’s has the baconator. That’s like 1 degree.
TheBlackKaiser
That's undercooked.
JollyRogarrgh
Famously named after Kevin Bacon in Tremors
TwoCheese
I’ve eaten enough baconators to have the tremors. Also baconator> bacon ator> bacon actor. 2 degrees right there.
Merky600
the artist. https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2018/05/26/514228407/alan-bean-apollo-astronaut-who-walked-on-the-moon-has-died-at-86
tellmeimcute
Please correct me if wrong, didn't the Wendy's CEO donate like 400k to trump's campaign recently?
jansenart
You're cute.
AnOceanOfStars
Well, first still doesn't mean best. Ask your wife while in bed.
docchloroplast
yadda yadda late-stage capitalism I don’t care I like silly corporate Twitters
ameranthe
The snarky Wendy's account was funny for the first few years, now it just feels forced.
Ulthirm
You ever find it interesting that the people bitching about late stage capitalism are probably also the people behind half of the tactics
Ulthirm
corporations use in the first place, without ever realizing it? Like how the people at my warehouse never truly realized that their jobs
Ulthirm
were being used to test a system to replace 5 people's jobs? Its not a criticism, we dont really have a choice and all but its just an
Ulthirm
interesting thought. One of those circular philosophical arguments and such.
TheEmeraldProphylactic
Huh! So that his name! Al Bean damned!
DontKnowTheSource
I was hoping this would be a Kevin bacon game where you somehow connect something EXTREMELY obscure to Kevin bacon
jansenart
Replace the last frame with Apollo 13 and there you go.
jethz
So, Mr Bean was the 4th person to walk on the moon? Gotcha.
IDontKnowWhatToDoAnymoreAndImTired
I have to disagree, I'd say either "1968" or "Spider" were arguably the best episodes of From The Earth To The Moon.
jansenart
Spider was my second but the music was extremely repetitive. That's All There Is was the funniest and that made it the best to me.
IDontKnowWhatToDoAnymoreAndImTired
Fair enough I suppose. I liked the historical context of 1968, and I loved the end-to-end view given by Spider.

I approve this meme
ImGoingToGoFallAsleepOnABench
Is that where this comes from?
AlmostScientist
Smug Wendy was a twitter meme that reached a manga artist that transformed it into its final meme form.
SomeDetroitGuy
Fun fact! Big Macs are a rip off of Big Boy sandwiches. Oreo is a rip off of Hydrox. Lego ripped off Kiddicraft. Who remembers the original?
way3000
I think you need to read up on Lego :p because that is wrong.
ObsceneTentacularInsertions
corporate plutocracy ripped of fascism
PestulioXXBananaXXSHAKER
I don’t even know if Pepperidge farm remembers
ObsceneTentacularInsertions
because CNN works
Cloy552
Damnit I thought that rabbit hole was going somewhere
Papabadger
So fourth man on the moon was.. Mr. Bean?
jansenart
Yep, third was Pete Conrad.
jansenart
That would make a hell of a special. Mr. Bean goes to the Moon. Do you have Rowan's contact info, by chance?
servingmytimeinusersub
How about... That star is from "Carl's Jr."
StillNotYouTube
"That's All There Is" is not the best episode of From the Earth to the Moon. It's definitely "Spider".
StillNotYouTube
And 2nd goes to "Mare Tranquilitatis" for the best recreation of the Apollo 11 landing. Much better than First Man.
jansenart
Spider is my second, but That's All There Is is definitely the one with the most heart and comedy.
jansenart
OH! But how can you forget the episode "Galileo Was Right", where the astronauts were trained as geologists!
StillNotYouTube
I liked that one too because of the focus on the technical and scientific aspects of the mission. Made me think of Armageddon. :)
jansenart
Do you play Kerbal?
Lichelf
So being 4th meant he somehow walked on the moon, worse? What is Wendy trying to say?
rollerskateorgies
That you only remember who did it first.
Lichelf
That makes no sense as a defense against "being first doesn't mean being best"
Hashbrown123
And second. Buzz is just as well known.
ReginaKasteen
Well, punching a moon landing denier in the face will do that to a man.
rollerskateorgies
Yes, if you start analyzing it does ruin the joke. As it often does.
