When I share articles from the Washington Post or NY Times I often post the entire article because they are hidden behind paywalls. I do this knowing some people can’t or won’t pay for subscriptions and I think they should be informed. It’s like I took my copy of the paper and cut out that article for everyone to pass around.
Source: https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/we-dont-see-color-trump-rallygoers-explain-black-lives-matter-protests-to-their-children/2020/06/21/79ee890c-b40c-11ea-a510-55bf26485c93_story.html
I can’t say I’m shocked, but I am deeply saddened by the ignorance and lack of self awareness and empathy.
Someone just shared a twitter link with me that’s apropos, a grandmother shouting “I will teach my grandchildren to hate you all”. Here’s the link: https://mobile.twitter.com/notcapnamerica/status/1274915209094868992?s=20

This is really upsetting to read. The complete lack of understanding and knowledge... All while wearing those fucking shirts? Disgusting.
Piornet
This is so, so depressing.

Thanks for the article. Great way to have a look at the”other side.” Ignorance is mutual and lack of information makes it worse.

Yeah, article in WSJ about how both sides only know caricatures of the other. “Idealogical segregation” gets no where
crankyoldgeezer
It gets somewhere: Putin’s goal achieved.

I read Fox News, as well as many other publications. Every Fox News article I’ve read makes him appear reasonable, a feat, I know. If that 1

It seems like they just missing a key part of history that might help them to understand where we are today.

Also they never said what they now believe the confederate flag stands for now, not that would make it Ok for what it represented in past
NotTinyPancakes
Almost no American history was taught during my years of schooling and I still have more of a grasp on it than they do...which is sad.
Aaaurelius
I learned a lot of history in high school, but the part of it that covered civil rights was pretty watered down and simplified. Booooo.
TheDoctorAndHisTrustyTardis
“i plan to tell him that the KKK was started by democrats” why don’t you tell them that the modern KKK endorses trump? ???
TurduckenMcNugget
I want him to tell him that the democrats championed the civil rights act and fought segregation.
PsychicSpider
I know it's well beside the point... but that LGBT shirt makes me so fucking angry, well past what's probably a reasonable level of anger.
TurboSharkYay
Saw someone in public wearing that shirt. Was angry too. Don't think people understand how cruel that can be. ?

I had to read the shirts 3 times. I couldn’t believe it. I felt the rage in my bones then I just felt sad..

IdrawDoggosIGuess
But how do we prove our version is right? Much less convince them of it?
Dragon10449
That's the tricky part of all history. The right version is never the same as the one written down. It takes a lot to determine the facts
Dragon10449
Cause history is recorded by people, and people inherently are bias. Some say it intentionally (ie Roman history), others without knowing it

That chart is the equivalent of Trump actually labeling Antifa a terrorist group. A quick google search can find more left-wing extremist

PearjuiceATX
They left our the context where there was a major shift (read: flip-flop) in the values of democrats and republicans in the early 1900s

The flip is a complete lie. The South turned red because of the civil rights act signed by Lyndon B. Johnson.

CrazyLizardLady86
But then they'd have to stop eschewing that Democrats founded the KKK because the intention would be lost in the meaning/truth.

They would however get to learn the details about more recent forms of racism, such as the 1990s crime bill.
