So when I saw imgur's whole "tell us about your gaming story" thing, I spent some time thinking about what my most memorable moments were. The more I thought on it the more I realized just how fundamental the Halo series was to my childhood. With that said I'd like to share my story and experience with the Halo series as well as entertain you with some of my favorite Halo memes.

I was only 5 when CE was released so I didn't really get the chance to experience it until I was older. But some of my fondest memories were playing 2 on 1 team slayer in blood gulch against my friends older brother who was much better at the game than we were.

Probably the best memory I have of CE was staying up until 5 am over Christmas break trying(and failing) to beat the library on legendary with my best friend Ryan.

On to Halo 2 and what would become my challenge for the next 15 years of my life.

I have spent countless hours on legendary in this game come so close to finishing it only to get totally stuck on some part due to my own poor planning and fail. To this day it is the only game in the series that I haven't beaten on legendary and I still find myself going back every so often. Dedicating a day or so to trying again only to fall short once more.

Until now my experience with halo had involved going to my friends houses and playing on their consoles. I was a Nintendo kid growing up so I never had my own not that I didn't love my Gamecube and Wii.

So when Christmas morning '07 came along and my folks had given me an xbox and Halo 3. I LOST MY MIND. I don't know that any gift since has topped my excitometer on that day.

I played EVERY SINGLE DAY until school started back up. Playing campaign, making creations in forge mode, and meeting new friends in online that would last for years to come. Needless to say halo 3 is and will probably always be my favorite of the whole series.

While Halo 3 is my favorite game I still hold Reach on a pedestal. It did a lot for the series and despite a few missteps I still place it in my top 5 games of all time.

Since I'd gotten the console some years prior I actually got to participate in the beta tests for reach. Still have some of my old videos from them as well(man my voice was squeaky at 14). Most of my friends from 3 had carried over and with the new forge mode I spent more time on the game than I did on schoolwork (sorry about that one mom and dad). I'd forged (eh get it) some real friendships as well from a mutual love of the games that would last until even today.
One of these friends would eventually lend me a book and then the real journey would begin....

My friend Blaise (yes real name) lent me his copy of Fall of Reach in my Junior year of high school as a way of psyching me up for the release of 4. I got engrossed in the military style sci fi and fell in live with the writing of Eric Nylund.

I proceeded to read every book that was available in the span of about a month and as of today I'm proud to say i have kept up with the novels as they were released. If you like good world building and some seriously amazing character depth. I highly recommend you pick up fall of reach and just see for yourself.

This deep dive into the story only deepened my love for the series and gave better understanding to the plot if the games and their significance to the rest of the halo universe.

While I played halo 4 and 5 and enjoyed them I didn't really get the same sense if wonder I did from the first trilogy and reach. I don't know if it's the way the 343 has changed the plot or just the shift of focus to multiplayer. Its just not the same. But this being the end of the post I'd like to say on final thing...

Send a message to your old gaming friends if you can. Try to reconnect with them. It may spark a new friendship that you might have been missing in your life.

Cause remember Spartans never die. They're just missing in action...

FP Edit: Wow just... wow. You guys/gals are awesome. I've been having a rough time of it lately (bad breakup) so seeing all of you connect over this series really warms my heart. Glad to see there's still so many other Spartans out there.

I wasn’t gaming when Halo came out, too busy with life. Last year I bought the entire series and my son and I played coop through them.

One of mine found me. Turns out we both work in 3D effects. Him on video Vfx, and me video games. Was nice.

What Bungie did, feelings.... What 343 did... angry feelings.

Well you can forget about those adjustments to your A2 scope!

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes I’ve played Halo 2 campaign more times than I can count

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

He flew pretty good... For a brick OOH RAH

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

4 and 5 was 343 rewriting and retconning already established lore. Pissed me right the hell off.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I made a friend in Venezuela playing Heroes of the Storm. When the country went crazy I lost contact.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I had a friend in Brazil that the same thing happened to 5 years back during their unrest. He just showed again last year. Don't lose hope.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Halo is still my all-time favorite franchise. 4 and 5 didn’t recapture the magic, but they’re still fun and I have high hopes for Infinite.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Have beaten each game Solo Legendary multiple times and am in the process of playing through yet again - on Heroic - in chronological order.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Halo is to me what LOTR is to others. And no amount of bad sequels will sully the original trilogy for me.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Me and my mate still play it all the time from war zone to infection to halo mcc multiplayer. (we don't touch halo 4 (he likes it through))

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Halo and Halo 2 lost me so many hours.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Wish I knew how to find them. Diablo 2 LoD was my game. And WoW. Man I had a blast with those games....

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

For the longest time, Halo was the only reason I owned an Xbox.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It basically still is for me. Though since 6 is coming to PC I'm not sure if I'll keep getting them.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The gamer I am today still searches for those lost night's on halo 3. Best multiplayer. And reach was also in my all time favorite games.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I'm heartbroken those days are now behind me. 16 friends on custom maps crying with laughter. Now just a distant memory :,(

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Halo to Reach anything after the series is eh wish Bungie stayed

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Man, the feels. Had a friend that passed away from breast cancer a few years ago, we beat Halo 1-3 co-op on legendary together. Miss her. :(

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

are you me?

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I loved Reach's multiplayer much more than 4's; it had a good balance and things were exactly the right pace of shooter I could enjoy.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Halo 3 was my jam. Never made better memories than I did playing that game with my best xbox pals as dumb 13 year olds

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I have spent countless hours playing both halo 1 and 2. They are some of my all time favorites.

7 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 0

I think I've played through 2's campaign at least 100 times if not more.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I barely beat halo 2 on legendary. You gotta be really really patient. Also when I saw you could be arbiter in 2 I basically shit myself

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My favorite experience with Halo was Reach's Invasion. I think they did an awesome job of Spartan vs Elite in that mode.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I miss it so much. Hope they bring something like it back to infinite.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Invasion was the best! I remember balancing on top of Falcons while transporting the core at the end even though you're supposed to walk

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Man... a friend of mine passed about 5 years ago. Every now and then Steam glitches and says they were online a few hours ago... :'(

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

A good friend to remember us is the best we can hope for when we cross the rainbow bridge. Don't forget that or him.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I just can't "unfriend" him...

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Any ODST love? It was different for sure, but I felt it was peak Bungie storytelling

7 years ago | Likes 570 Dislikes 6

It’s soundtrack is fucking god tier, listen to the 2nd half of skyscraper ‘air traffic control’ I think it’s called. Marty was a master

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I loved the Sci-fi noire atomosphere, shame you had to use the VISR to see though.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I did enjoy odst but it felt like a part of 3 more than a standalone title. That said I love Nathan Fillion so ODST has a special place.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I did enjoy ODST, buy felt it was a bit light for a full game. Either way, beat it all, and loved it.

7 years ago | Likes 103 Dislikes 0

To this day, ODST is tied for my top Halo campaign, right up there with 2.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Odst also came with the multiplayer disc with some old maps on it. It was awesome.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I still think ODST was far better than Reach

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm in the process of beating ODST on Hard with my son. It's only $4.49 on Xbox

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

ODST is my favorite. Reach is a very close second

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

ODST is the best halo game in my opinion. 3 and reach are amazing. But ODST is king.

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

I loved ODST. Reach is a close second for me.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Hells yes my dude. We need an ODST and reach remaster plz

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

ODST Firefight with friends was top tier couch coop

7 years ago | Likes 60 Dislikes 0

Damn straight

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Pop! Yayyyyyayayyyyyy!!!

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I actually setup the superintendent sounds and chirps as my ringtone/text and email noise on my iPhone.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Def one of my favorites. The story was amazing and i loved the idea of experiencing the invasion as a regular human soldier. 1/2

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also the ai that ran New Mombasa was super endearing without ever actually being able to speak. You got to learn his character through 2/3

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Tiny details scattered about or intuition. Like during the bridge detonation scene.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Plus they nailed firefight in that one. So many hours getting endure for everyone

7 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

i like ODST, one of my favorite halo games, Excellent music too.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If it were not for ODST I wouldn't be a writer right now.

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I finished my bfa last year and am going to apply for MFA programs for the fall of '20. Thanks, ODST.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

what?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

ODST was and always will be my favorite. I loved not being an overpowered character who could easily be overrun with 3 Elites if you weren't

7 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

> careful. Of my many cosplay ideas, an ODST ranks amongst the top. (This year is Starfleet officer, next year is Goku)

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Got any pictures of the stuff you have done?

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I did na attempt at Emiles helmet, I posted the "making of" on here. I didn't like the visor itself so I need to find a different material

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Goku I'll be making next year when I have the body for it, I haven't worked on sewing the uniforms yet. But there'll be pictures when done

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks for the nod to Reach, I can’t describe how important that game was for me and my friends in high school.

7 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

Friken LOVED Reach!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Reach was amazing, I've replayed that halo so many times. Glad Bungie made Reach over making halo 4.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That was a staple for my high school friends as well. We loved coordinating attacks and flanks in competition

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I remember running around the maps in local games trying to memorize the names of rooms for callouts

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I still play fairly frequently. I thought Reach was widely hated. I'm glad to see I'm at least somewhat wrong. I love, love, love that game.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I haven’t seen my Halo friends in years. If by whatever chance they see this, Cameron and Klaire, you guys were the best. Miss ya’ll.

7 years ago | Likes 97 Dislikes 1

I guess I’m lucky then, still got 3 friends from my halo 2 clan I still play with to this day!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks, same!

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

When people tell you that you cant make actual friends online it makes me so mad. Yeah you might fall out of contact, but the bond is there.

7 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Amen. They were friends of mine back when I was like 14-15. I haven’t had Xbox Live membership for years. I’m 22 now. I checked recently 1/2

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

and neither of them have been online in 1-2ish years. I’ll never forget them and hopefully I’ll see them again someday. 2/2

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

When I was 9 my bro made me start halo on legendary anytime i took a step out of his set level plan he would restart the entire thing 1/2

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

on the upside he had his mates over and we linked up xboxes had multiplayer the look on their faces when a 9yr old girl beat them all >:D

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

The most fun I've ever had in any multiplayer mode on any game was on Halo 2. They don't make 'em like they use to.

7 years ago | Likes 133 Dislikes 2

I wish I'd had an xbox when it was at its peak but split screen coop/multiplayer was still some of the most fun I've had.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Zombies, super jump glitch, clans, ranked team slayer... so many memories

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I liked reaches multiplayer the best honestly

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I spent so much of my college time playing Halo 2. Battle rifle no shields on Lockout, yeahhh!

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lockout all day!

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

"Stop screenwatching!"

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Screen watch long enough and you’re staring down the barrel of a gun ;)

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Halo 2 online was the shit. I miss those days.

7 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Xbox has the collection and can play online. Servers are usually empty though :(

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dual needlers for the win!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you got a pc look up project cartographer, been playing halo2 mp all the time

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Agreed

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So much of life lost to Halo 2. Good times back then.

7 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

If it’s good times it’s not lost!

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

SOO much time lost. Quad shots, bxr's, super jumps. i knew every inch of ever map. If the servers went back up I would play in a heartbeat

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

MCC

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

is it exactly halo 2 or did they change game engines or physics like they did wen they redid 1

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It has both :). Halo 2 Anniversary and original

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

you sir just made my day

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Halo is still my favorite game series. 5 was a bad dream

7 years ago | Likes 217 Dislikes 4

Does anyone rem playin shotgun creek?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I liked 4' gameplay, despite the ham-fisted "bring Chief back" writing. 5 is too PvP focused. Still interested in the story, though.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Its like Star Wars. Ep 7 i was like eh change is weird but its fine i guess. Then 8 came and took a dump on everything.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I really hope infinite is good, I moved away from console and playing on pc is my platform now so I am so hyped that I can play halo again

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i felt that halo 3 was a beautiful and poetic ending to the whole thing. I wanted more but knew better and wished 4/5/6 never happened.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

5 was some much better than 4

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

If guardians is anything to go by, I'm very hopeful.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Its all about Reach

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I picked up an extra controller to play split screen. Why the fuck did they take it away? I was so angry.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Console isn't powerful enough to make two screens. Just the way it goes buddy.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

that and it makes you buy another xbox

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Halo 4 had the best story imo (not campagn necessarily, but story), and 5 has the best forge and multiplayer.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 5

4 was like an awkwardly tight grope to the nuts, of which keept asking if i was enjoying it, i was not.

7 years ago | Likes 78 Dislikes 0

This is an accurate description

7 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

You should check out Halo MCC! It is Halo 1-4. They have finally fixed the multiplayer issues and it is on game pass.

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

And the switch feature is fuckingdope. Where you can play with old or new graphics.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I started getting back into it recently and I’m looking for people to play with

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I accidentally bought it since the description said for Windows 8.1 and up not knowing it wasn't for PC. My heart aches.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'll have to disagree. Yeah, the campaign was a total letdown. But the multiplayer hasn't been this addicting since Halo 3.

7 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 10

Agreed, the movement abilities allow some crazy juking and getting perfect medals is so satisfying. Wish it was in older games of the series

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

You must also like playing the same 3 maps over and over and over and fuck warzone

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

What made Halo great was a good story (with couch co-op) and killer multiplayer. 343 can do half that

7 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 1

Well you must play cod

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

So? CoD is a solid FPS series

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

But no true halo fan wants halo to play like cod, halo should play differently. And it did before halo 5

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I play both extensively, their only similarities are that they're first person perspective.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I don't want to play a COD clone. I liked cod but because it played differently than halo. Now halo is just cod wannabe.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0
