"It says he died *after* eating 14 cinnamon buns, not *because* of it. I'm willing to take that risk."

#2 i think most folks don't understand it's an allegory to how we're all connected, that our problems are all self made, and that the only way forward without destroying ourselves is through love and respect for each other. The new testament was supposed to testify for that with the unfortunate killing of a peaceful man who loved the world. It's been bastardized by people seeking power through literal interpretations of mythology meant to guide the individual.

#2. I always thought that Jesus, a man, achieved enlightenment, and attempted to free his people from the shackles of their religion. But people were having none of that, including his followers. The result was that they built him into the bullshit, The Man, The Myth, The Legend. The fact that there is no cheese served with the wine and crackers should tell you something.
FoamingToad
People are generally weak, and the response of a significant proportion of the populace, when their religion is demolished, is to build a new religion. Sad but true.

#41 I did take my glasses off once when I was getting ready to open a can of whoop-ass because I wanted to see clearly less than I wanted to risk him breaking my glasses if I kept them on. I went to hand them to my sister and she wisely grabbed my wrist instead and towed me away (he was not worth fighting)

i think i know what this person's twitter username is
DrGreenskies
Nope. I don't post on twitter. I just happen to enjoy this guy's posts.

#43 ah, that's due today, thanks for the reminder as to why I was feeling suspiciously "Beyonce" enough today to get a barista coffee instead of the work supplied tar..

This turned from a random meme dump into just one guy's Twitter feed very suddenly.

Was not aware Fitzgerald and Hemingway were founding members of the D club

Never thought I'd see those names mentioned in the same sentence as Arin's special club, but here we are.

#3 Yeah…. NO. That is completely wrong. Gimli was the first dwarf to be named elf friend, allowed to enter Lothlórien, and given the most precious gift Galadriel had to offer due to the words he spoke to her - bridging the hatred between their two people. Gimli wasn’t “snuck in”. He was allowed into the Undying Lands with open arms becoming the first dwarf to do so - the highest honor.

#8 "slow clap" .... I sort of needed that, so thanks.

#2 That's not how you spell, "raped,".
She was underage, did not consent, and in any case the power dynamic would make it rape in any case.
To paraphrase: Angel: "God's gonna put a baby in you." Mary: "Well he's God... it's not like I can stop him." (and yes, according to the Bible, that's how it went down)

#27 Exasperated Lawyer: "I can write it down, but if your will just says FFA on it, then it will be contested in court."

I got this ad smack dab in the middle of this delightful dump. What the fuck, Imgur?
DrGreenskies
Unfortunately, that was not my doing.
CelestialSea
That's how it ends, Doc. Not with a bang, or a whimper, but with a "thwack."

#2 Forgot other fun bits like - hanging on the cross how does god abandon himself (Mathew 27:46)? If it was truly a sacrifice and he really dies how does he raise himself from the dead? When I asked these questions as a kid all I got was "It's complicated." It's not complicated, we just aren't supposed to think and call it "faith"
ExTechOp
Also, try to ask exactly what is the mechanism whereby Jesus staying dead for three days redeems humans, there will be as many wildly differing explanations as Christians.

LostChats
A kid doesn’t understand the physics of how a chair works, yet will sit in it having faith that it will hold them up. It’s hard to understand a god being that is 3 in 1, even as an adult. If you believe that humans evolved from amoeba, you are exercising faith (believing in the unproven and unseen; the spark of life has not been recreated or tested in a lab and whatever has evolved in the fossil record began with that spark).
Nonada
Faith is belief without evidence; a child has evidence that a chair will hold them up because they've sat in chairs before. Evolution is one of the most proven scientific fields out there.

Hey, my childhood dog's name was Rufus. Strong name. Good dog. He died old and loved.
DrGreenskies
My Ru is named after Rufus Griswold; he is 7 years old and definitely loved. This is his brother Kafka.
HarryDresdenIsMySpiritAnimal
Mine was named Rufus because he was part redbone hound. My grandfather named him that because my grandmother wouldn't allow him to be called Lucifer.
DrGreenskies
Lol. That's awesome. If I could have a bcat, I would get a black one and name it either Lucifer or Beelzebub.
HarryDresdenIsMySpiritAnimal
Bast would also be a cool name for a black cat
DrGreenskies
Oh, it would.
