Let's get this bread

The Sabine's Gull i saw last week would qualify: the Ring-billed Gull in this photo actually would not, as they are quite commonly found inland.

Also this man right here making this post has some od these to the point he identifies with this meme.

The Buddha probably would not play DnD.

This Mississippi Kite looks like a Muppet and I love him.

I would totally take my wife's last name.

Today's message from Pippin: "What Happened? Hey pippin!"
___
1) Are you on the run to a safe place and passing through Arizona on your way to safer grounds? My apartment is open to you to crash at, and it is a safe space. Pippin and I will make you a meal and gladly share tea, wine, or mead with you.

2) Hey! Take your meds with a full glass of water, please. Do it for Pippin, or Space Mom, or better yet, do it for yourself.

3) Ĝefeloað wē. We will carry on.

4) all funds from the sales of items at these two links will be sent to support charities aiding to fight for Trans rights in the US (not just T-shirts!)

Uhm.
That’s not how that works with neurodivergent persons… anxiety, depression, executive dysfunction, millennials.

The experience of having something you so honestly love be torn apart and burned away year after year.

Indifference is a coping mechanism.

The problem is the dumpster fire.

We’re just the recycling bins hoping to make it through another day,
melting slowly not because we want to but because no one has stopped the unprecedented bullshit.

#12 I have those guys in my neighborhood! Sandhill cranes. My brother calls them "long legged jobs". Here's one who was sick of the watersports on the nearby lake staring into my kitchen window.

#10 That is one of the Paul brothers. Their list of vile actions is too long to describe in full, but it includes crypto scams and sexual assault.

2 weeks ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

My husband and I have been together for nearly 20 years and unless I'm VERY obvious with my intentions, he will still miss it completely. So I often have to say things exactly like this to get my point across 🤣

2 weeks ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

This EXACTLY. I don't any male (myself included) who catch subtle hints. We are just too oblivious

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Apparently my "type" is women with undiagnosed autism and a hint of daddy issues. I'm batting a thousand, having romantic interest in me might be more accurate than DSM5 criteria. As for why I'm into it....well there's a lot to like (the alt-girl vibe seems to be an accurate stereotype), but it's primarily because I'm clueless and they're direct. "Get in the taxi, we are fucking at your place." Yes ma'am.

2 weeks ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

We all have Mommy and Daddy issues. If you're lucky, you realize the parts of them in you that you don't want to keep around your late 20s when you've had enough time to be yourself away from them and learn more about who you are and if that conflicts with how they raised you.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Eh, I don't agree with "we all do" to be honest. My choice of words is jest, but in reality it boils down to attachment styles - that's one of the biggest things our parents give us early in life and we tend to carry them with us. Many people wind up with secure attachments, many don't, and the reasons behind it are myriad.

#9 In ancient Greece you'd read either from papyrus scrolls or from wax tablets if you were reading your own notes / homework. And in most cases the teacher would come to your home rather than the other way around. They might even have lived there as a full-time employee. Most city states didn't have a public education system, so only the wealthy could afford to hire teachers for their offspring.

#16 Buddha sounds like a bitch

2 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

"The ninth-century Buddhist master Lin Chi is supposed to have said, 'If you meet the Buddha on the road, kill him.' Like much of Zen teaching, this seems too cute by half, but it makes a valuable point: to turn the Buddha into a religious fetish is to miss the essence of what he taught. In considering what Buddhism can offer the world in the twenty-first century, I propose that we take Lin Chi’s admonishment rather seriously. As students of the Buddha, we should dispense with Buddhism."

#40 the only reason I'll never lick a salt lamp is because I'm convinced to my core that all of them are covered in a layer of dust

2 weeks ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I also would recommend against licking a salt lamp, or using pink salt in the kitchen for that matter, because this type of salt contains lots of pollutants. Often including toxic substances such as lead, arsenic, mercury, aluminum, and cadmium. Hence the pink color. Pure NaCl is "white" (transparent actually, but it appears white due to light scattering between crystals). It should be illegal to advertise pink salt as particularly healthy when it's anything but.

#19 Ayn Rand, and it's not even close.

2 weeks ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

Ayn Rand isn't a philosopher, she's a psychopathic lunatic that believed the propaganda she spewed.

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Now I only have the most puddle deep knowledge of philosophy, but if your most despised ISN'T Rand, then I feel you have some serious explaining to do.

2 weeks ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I am in mexico. I am mexican. I am reading Atlas Shrugged because I like to read books that shaped the world. I am 400 page deep and I can almost head Ayn making every character she doesnt like talk like a down syndrome caricature. Also it is pretty hard to explain my co-mexicans why I hate the woman so much since they think neoliberalism is a national slang and not the reality that made us a cocacola own country.

2 weeks ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

If Ayn Rand were a philosopher, Fox News would be journalism.

2 weeks ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

She is, quite literally, a philosopher. That her philosophy is utter shit is beside that point.

2 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

No, I think the fox news metaphor is pretty on point. She doesn't really support her arguments; it's mostly just set down in fiction as a kind of morality play. Very few philosophers take her seriously as a philosopher. That isn't to say that people don't take libertarianism seriously as a philosophy, but that Rand isn't really doing something "philosophical" except kind of telling you her moral conclusion. It's like how Fox News is journalism-LIKE but is mostly just made up bullshit.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't think the fact her philosophy is full of holes disqualifies her as a philosopher. I mean, poking holes in others' arguments seems like 90% of what (better) philosophers do after all.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Well that's true, but on the continuum between "just tells you what to think" and "establishes a theoretical justification for her views," she's more in the former camp. I would say that a philosopher must engage with philosophical ideas / argument, and I don't think she really does that. So I would say that objectivism is a philosophy in SOME sense, but Ayn Rand isn't really a philosopher any more than any other writer of fiction. E.g. Is Kurt Vonnegut a philosopher for The Sirens of Titan?

And Dr Oz is a Doctor. So.....

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

He has a MD, yes. Fox News, on the other hand, describes themselves as "entertainment," not journalism.

#35 I knew a guy who took his wife's last name.
He hated his family and the last name was long and harder to pronounce.
My wife took mine cause it was cooler and shorter.
(Still gets mis-pronounced by the average american.)

2 weeks ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 0

I took my husband's last name because it's easier to spell and no one has to guess at the pronunciation.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I solely go by my last name to the extent that when people find out it isnt my first name they are flabbergasted. I would have taken my wife's last name, but in NY you can only change middle and last name with a marriage. If I could have changed my first name to my current last name Iwould have taken her last name.

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

My surname has 4 letters. Wife's maidenname has 15. She had a rubber stamp made up to sign documents.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My ex wife took my last name cause she didn't like her family name (hates her dad) and she kept it even after we got divorced.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My wife kept her name, partially because her first name wouldn't sound right with my last name. Wrong sounds and numbers of syllables, totally the right decision. But it does get pronounced wrong by most people (should have an accent in it, but legally doesn't because at some point generations ago official forms in the US didn't accept accented characters, and many computer based forms in our lifetime didn't either).

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I know 'of' a guy who took his wife's last name. His name had been Jack Gillis. He and his wife started a band, promptly divorced, and spent most of their career saying they were siblings. And now he's more famous with her name than she ever was.

I want to take my wife's last name but don't want to deal with voting issues if they manage to pass the save act.

2 weeks ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

My wife loves her last name so I was like "yeah nbd." The clerk at the courthouse saw my last name and was like "good call keeping your name." I was fuming, because who the fuck says that? I mean, it's a little odd but nothing crazy, literally 2 syllables. My wife almost changed it out of spite lol.

2 weeks ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

I'm probably not the only person who's curious what the last names are.

2 weeks ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

My wife took my last name because she has synesthesia and my last name had prettier colors than hers.

2 weeks ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Tell me you buy your wife flowers and pretty poems just for that reason.

2 weeks ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I do buy flowers quite a bit. I’ll have to think about the poetry. I’d need to write down the colors for her entire alphabet.

2 weeks ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Sounds cool. Let us know how it turns out.
