A locked padlock with no combination

3 weeks ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I taped my padlock combos to the bottom of the junk drawer with clear tape. Never lose!

A bottle of glue that’s gone unused for so long that it’s solidified inside the bottle as a mockery of its own intended purpose.

You can fix that by bending the prongs inwards a bit close to the tips.

You never broke one of the bits off a bread clip, put it on your finger, then fling it? Skip the first 1:30 of this video for a demonstration. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1hLU1Wm-cPE&pp=0gcJCWgCo7VqN5tD

One of my proudest accomplishments was giving myself permission to throw away used twist ties.

The only way to find out is to try different combinations until the remote works 90% of the time for another week or 2.

Different? No, they are all 5mm.

Three? No sir. Try thirty three, minimum.

3 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Oh that's a good one. One of the truest examples of "save it for later in case I can use it" but it can't be used for anything because it never fits anything

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That are somehow neither metric nor USC

3 weeks ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

and don't have any markings to indicate size, you just have to guess what they are

And not hexagonal, octagonal.

Omg that's terrible. +1

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

that just means they are super cheap and out of spec '{

3 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

OMG dude, I once had a 3/32" as part of a set that was just a bit too small. Just enough to cam out any hex I dared jam it into. Aggravating as fucc. I let it fuck me up twice, then I yote it into the sun. Out of spec tools are the worst.

A spool of thread. With or without the needle

3 weeks ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

-A single Allen key, along with the spare bolts from a piece of IKEA furniture
-expired candy
-A dead 9V battery
-A receipt from a store that’s no longer in business
-A post it note with a phone number on it, but no name

3 weeks ago | Likes 65 Dislikes 1

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And every time you open that drawer you lick test the 9v, and throw it away, but somehow there's always a dead 9v but you never questioned it, until the day you needed one...

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The Allen key will never, ever be the right size for whatever it is you need to do.

3 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

the allen key. is a cursed object then?

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think the junk drawer is the cursed object.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Typically all furniture uses a universal size, but for any other job you’re exactly right.

YES. 🙌 that right there. That's when a junk drawer gains final form. Also, the thing keeping from closing cannot be a potato masher.

Y’all need to get a battery daddy

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I heard of a sugar daddy, what's the difference? Does he make sure the "toys" are always at full charge?

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And one that is clearly gone and heavily corroded.

3 weeks ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

Can it be more than one?

3 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yes, but the other one will be in a different spot, and it will have ruined the other object it was sitting on

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I heard batteries last longer in the refridgerator. No joke. I hope it's true because I have a box of batteries in the back of the fridge. However, I believe you're supposed to let them warm back up to room temperature before using them. Feel free to tell me that I'm spreading lies on the internet, but I'm totally serious. Anecdotally.

3 weeks ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

This is only applicable to alkaline batteries (rechargeables like NiMH or lithium won't take damage from the fridge but it's totally unhelpful), and for modern alkalines it's sorta dubious how much it actually does. I'm not about to run a several year long trial to see, but anecdotally I have 10 year old alkaline AAAs laying about that still measure full charge and haven't corroded or otherwise degraded so far as I can tell.

3 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You are correct on both counts. Nobody who understands chemistry is going to tell you otherwise

A single, very hard cookie of unknown age, in a cellophane wrapper, that was in that drawer when we moved in four years ago and still remains, at the back, buried under twisty ties and wire and batteries.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Whatever you do, do not throw out that cookie. That’s the house’s cookie and the house may become angry if it doesn’t have its safety cookie.

Nipple clamps

3 weeks ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

People still use keys?

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 9

No, that's why they're in the junk drawer.

3 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Uh, yes? I've never met anyone in person who has a smart lock to their house. And I did actually have to use the weird key built into my car's fob once when the battery died so I could get into the car and seat the fob in the RFID spot to start the car.

3 weeks ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I was strictly thinking about house locks, my car still needs a key and I’ll never buy anything newer than a 2016 so I’ll be using keys for life. I don’t think I know anyone that doesn’t have a connected lock, I haven’t used a key in 10 years, just press the keypad when we leave and geofencing unlocks when we pull in but to each their own

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

And when the batteries die unexpectedly?

3 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

The lock and keypad both send out alerts when batteries are running low but they are also on the monthly maintenance checklist to change out their rechargeable batteries along with remotes and cameras around the house. Haven’t had an issue yet but still do carry keys in case of an emergency

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Sauce packets of unknown provenance.

3 weeks ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

Too many sharp things in the very full junk drawer for that. They would get cut and leak and it would be a gory mess.

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Idk, I’d say keep sharp things out of a drawer you're going to be digging around in?

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

3 weeks ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Did they leave stains on the cards?

3 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

One of the rubber bands kinda "melted" onto a rare card. I don't remember what kind, but it was rare enough for me to spend an hour and a bit trying to scrape it off with a fresh scalpel :(
