Would be a shame if I just right click and save as.
eatassskatefaster
Hehe it would be a shame if someone changed a single pixel of the image the NFT is applied to :)
Willsmileforfood
I would like to buy the NFT to this..
daromander
Artists need money like anyone. If you want more art to be produced than artists need to be supported. Maybe not NFTs but something!
Subsound
Exposure? /heavy sarcasm
ramshead91
NFT is the latest and Greatest way to launder money.
strongseth
well, the banana duct taped to a wall sort of ruined "art" so they had to come up with something new.
ramshead91
Art still exists and NFTs do present a way for digital artist to make some money outside of patron but they don't prevent access. Its tricky
EmporerDragon
I choose to invest in a far more concrete digital medium: team fortress 2 hats
FiveHeadedSnakeGod
Several people have mentioned money laundering, but I'm surprised no one seems to have brought up NFTs' horrendous energy costs.
Xenarion
Plenty have too, just under other comments
eastend666
Not excessive in the least.
bolobass
I like my tokens fungable. Please fungle my tokens!
TheDayTheBrainStoodStill
In this economy?

Don’t threaten me with a good time!

A what?

The blockchain: make something that nobody understands the use for and use it to create solutions there are no problems for.

remix96
It’s basically just money laundering
Solbabies
Someday everything is going to be in a blockchain, maybe someday even our minds, and then we could all openly see our thoughts.
Rupot
Money is just a pieces of cloth and metal we agree has vallue...
Subsound
I'll take yours if you don't want 'em
WalkinTalkinStephenHawkin
Yes and unfortunately for you nearly everyone agrees that NFT's are worthless.
lunchboxbilly
you have cloth money? you are waaay richer than me
Rupot
Let me correct myself. appearantly its paper. I was under the impression it is made of cloth to make it stronger... my mistake
edgareplekjekk
More like keystrokes on computers today.
BrovoFoxtrot
I paint and NFTs (if they werent awful for the environment, ripe for fraud & abuse, have a middle man, & hosted by some rando) could be cool
grandestoptimist
Why are they bad for the environment?
TheBurritoConfederacy
The computations to run the blockchain use a lot of electricity.
AbsolutelyZeroFucksGiven
With a non fuckable token you don't even own the "art". You just own the copy or "original" of the art at the NFT url. Like an idiot.
Xenarion
That's not even the original.
321boom
fungible = able to be funged
TrustMeImAPhotographer
https://youtu.be/rauYY00ya1Q Here's an interesting take on the NFTs for digital photography (art)
Metalbawkses
What's a NFT?
Xenarion
Non Fungible Token.
Metalbawkses
That still hurts my brain hole
Xenarion
Good, it should.

seyne
And then he made an NFT of the video of him burning and shitting on the art, and sold it for 10x what he paid for the original
Revyloution
As someone who took economics, its just nice that people are learning the word fungible.
ReginaKasteen
It refers to all the shrooms you need to take before it sounds like a good idea?
Revyloution
Love it, my new favorite definition
Sirdorova
Is he popping a stiffy while taking a dump on it? This guy knows no limits!
MisuseOfLiterally
As a digital artist, i need to look more into nfts. I think its super dumb, but money lol
kayakninjas
Get your hustle on, and best of luck to you!
dcjunkee
What... working for "exposure" isn't good enough?
NaturalBoggle
Incredibly bad for the environment as they are right now, I wouldn’t recommend it if you want to avoid haters
MisuseOfLiterally
good point
TheMouseOfMadness
audioknob
This still fucks my mind hole right in
Treblaine
People who don't understand technology (or even the law) are desperate to "get in first" on a new fad.
Xenarion
Accurate.
TheDayTheBrainStoodStill
*Sometimes* the person selling you the receipt *does* own the Mona Lisa. Everything else is accurate though.

Most artists I know are opposed to NFTs because the actual artists rarely if ever get a cut of the pay
doedi
Struggling artists could also do commission paintings. NFTs are just useless overhead
wr8070m324
While I think NFTs are nonsense, there's a lot of actual art ownership where you would leave the art in the care of a museum anyway, right?
wr8070m324
It seems to me that people who buy expensive art or originals don't do it for the physical item, but merely to be known as the owner.
greencookiemonster
Mostly right. 1. it's a safe way to invest, 2. it can be used to skirt taxes, 3. also used to launder money.
Treblaine
Yes but that's because you chose to leave it there as part of a quid pro quo.
DonnaNobleInTheLibrary
But in that case it's your decision to do so. With NFTs you literally *can't* take them home with you.
reallyyouguys
Sure, and they pay you to (because you actually own it) or you get a tax writeoff for them to display it. A "token" of it is not anything.
IAmGodot
Only thing wrong here is that you wouldn't buy an NFT from someone who didn't own the original.
RADmadness
They only need to have the work hosted online on a domain they have rights to. Then the NFT would point to that.
Corrodias
you wouldn't download a car
Xenarion
Except that's what's happening. People just claim an NFT on something by being the first to.
fromofelia
Except most are sold by people who aren't the artists
IAmGodot
Please direct me to the NFTs that were sold by people who didn't own the original.
DonnaNobleInTheLibrary
There was a bot that turned tweets into NFTs (for free) and a user who heavily abused that. The bot shut down again within a day.
IAmGodot
That isn't NFTs being sold. That's a service to create NFTs being abused. The service had a takedown option if someone claimed your work.
Scottyswans
Think of NFTs as a way for digital artists to sell their art like a painting would be sold. I personally like my art tangible, but...yeah
Xenarion
Except anyone can claim the NFT on other people's art, unless the artist has their own NFT system.
Rogahar
We can already do that, it's called a commission. Person pays us, we draw the thing they want, they now own the rights to that thing.
daromander
Commission is different. You make what they want in a commission. In this, you get to make what YOU want & see if anyone wants to buy it
Corrodias
(that's a thing you can already do without NFTs, too)
daromander
Usually only for companies to buy to use in products/ads. Once a digital artwork is already spread no one buys it like a normal painting
Corrodias
sure they do, with merchandizing and crowdfunding, which is what NFTs do except you get money from grifting just ONE person
500HPS
You don't *really* own it though you just own a bit of code stored somewhere that says you purchased it.
BrovoFoxtrot
I paint on paper. When I sell a painting online it’s either a physical copy mailed out, or I’m being commissioned and paid for my time. 1/2
BrovoFoxtrot
An nft is neither. The work is usually already made, so you’re not commissioning and you’re also not receiving an actual copy imo 2/2
BrovoFoxtrot
With that said, some NFTs do work like having the original work, but most do not
Axianamos
Why not like, just sell your digital art? People do it with patron all the time
Axianamos
Or onlyfans
TrustMeImAPhotographer
If they already see it, then why would they want to buy it. But artists want to present their art without putting them behind a paywall
Magpiebones
People might want rights to it. Like print it and sell it. Then they just buy from the artists, commission or not.
