To be fair (to be faaair) since its a sphere, it doesn't really have 'sides' in the traditional sense. Top and bottom are as much sides as 'back' and 'front' (its all relative in space anyway)

Actually no. It depends on you define sides. If you define side as facing us vs away from us (front and back), then you are right. Not possible. If you define sides as sort of "left vs right", then OP is correct. See attached image. The scales are different in reality because of the size of the Sun is much larger and the distance to the Sun is further, but the geometry should still hold.

1. Just wanted to add some context. The Sun is far enough from the Earth that its rays can be considered to be parallel when they reach the planet, even though they TECHNICALLY aren't. Also, the Sun is far enough that it almost acts like a point object, but NOT quite.

2. Given that the Sun acts like a not-point-source of parallel rays, the effect of being able to see one part of the Sun before the other is actually more a result of the curvature of the Earth.
So, in a weird twist, OP being correct given a "left-right" definition of the word "side" works out because flat earthers are wrong.
