I give the creators of these outrageous and over the top scenes in their movies credit. I used to think it was stupid how they did action scenes, especially back in the day. Yeah, it's cheesy, but that makes it great and it doesn't matter how sappy the movie is. This type of goofiness is what keeps you watching and is what makes alot of their movies and show fun to watch. :)
I think that's because we are used to our "occidental" timing and pace. Young people find old movies too slow. Me -54 y.o.- think that most modern movies are too fast, and that classic, b/w movies are just sooo slow. Japanese movies has a whole different pace, and B/Tollywood movies another different one. Nah. Slowmo is a tool to make action clearer and more impactful. Sometimes that happens more than three times in a movie. For example, in this clip, the times he gets on someone and throws them, or the reaction shot after the guy cuts the ropes tying his hands, when he poses after his hands are freed, or when he kicks off the wall all deserve slow mo.
Is that the original audio? The fist pumping at the start doesn't fit the music. It's such a powerful looking move when it's silent and just completely loses its edge with this music.
Bollywood is basically the DEFINITION of Live Action Anime. They use a lot of the same tropes, except they often mix it with musical elements as well. Unlike Hollywood, which can't manage the over-the-top nature of anime even in their parodies and most absurd comedies, Bollywood really doesn't hold back in the slightest. And their cinematography is already close.
Bollywood/Tollywood are somehow more like parodies of themselves when DOING IT SERIOUSLY than other cultures trying to actually parody them, it's amazing.
All South asia movies seems to be influenced by anime and have those over the top tropes. But, it comes from its own story telling culture. Accented cinema does a proper job breaking it down. If youve reas any Hindu stories of their gods/goddesses, it will make sense. And i agree they do the live action version of anime best. Even better than japanese live actions id say.
Because Hollywood is stuck up its own ass. They think every movie has to mean something or have some deep ass message. There's always some new writer, usually a nepotism hire, desperate to prove themselves and make something their own, even if it's an adaptation of a work by someone far more skilled than them. They don't care.
But at the same time, they also need every movie to make a bajillion dollars and so the studios interfere with their charts.

Since even Netflix is now in 'it needs to top the charts or it gets canceled' mode (the 'golden age of netflix' lasted half a decade or less), what little interest I had in major moves and series is gone. There's a few exceptions that I'll watch if given the chance (Arcane is on that list), but nothing enough to actually pay for.
And it's all this tug of war between two different people with their heads up their ass wanting two different things. They just can't make a movie be fun. It's gotta be artsy or deep or moving or world changing with its politics. No one expects entertainment to save the world.
I just want entertainment to be entertaining again. To be *fun*
they either want the next MCU or the next Oscar bait, Yet you think about some of the movies that people really love, the kinds of movies that if you see it on HBO while channel surfing or its available on a streamer. its rarely either of those. And I think this is the real nostalgia hook of 80s and 90s blockbusters, They were just plain fun movies. In some ways 1999's The Matrix is the perfect balance movie, It has thought provoking undertones. But also you can just watch for the gunfu.

Thanks for the information. Still, considering this footage, just substitute my use of 'bollywood' with 'tollywood' and the point still stands. In fact, since half the content I used to think was bollywood was actually tollywood (RRR included), I probably meant Tollywood all along.
They are from different regions and speak different language, but in practical terms Bollywood tends to be more musical and soapy and Tollywood is the insane over the top action movies. There is some overlap. Even Tollywood has some singing and dancing, but it tends to be in the middle of a badass fight scene, vs at a wedding like Bollywood.
