Fun fact: You could turn on airplane mode in your phone in GTA IV and mute these calls (story-related calls would still get through). I discovered this immediately after you get the phone handed to you, but apparently, this is news to many people.

Tiio Horn is the correct answer. (Tanis from Letterkenny). She's first nations too and from Ontario so she has the best claim I think.

IIRC they removed that cameo from the film in digital streams

#11 - For context this was the loading screen while the game installed itself to the PS3 hard drive
Radix865
Not just that, originally it installed each act separately. So after finishing an act you sat there watching snake smoking while it installed the next act. And it also deleted the earlier act so replays required new installations.
I think it was to prevent the installation from bloating too large since some of the old PS3's shipped with tiny HDD's?
sakm
IIRC the very first model of PS3 came with two hard drive options, 20GB or 60GB, and the latter was an extra $100. Amazing the advancements that were made just during its lifetime.
RAJrios
Bear in mind that neither of those sizes were high-capacity 2.5" HDDs at time of launch. That base model was less than 1/10th of what was being installed into laptops that year.
kmikl
Most console manufacturers used trash when they could get away with it, like the cooling solution, HDD...
Now, it barely seems to matter, until the AI industry implodes or moves on to different processes we're basically going to be dealing with ridonkulously high prices while they eat up fab time and available stock.
Shaows
That and to improve game performance, since running it directly off of the disc would have tanked the framerate
RAJrios
I believe Radix was referring to the automatic deletion of the previous act.
ydwyrd
A later update made it so you could download all acts at once at the very beginning. Somehow it was worse.
DdCno1
Gran Turismo 6 is similar. You have to install each update sequentially. I think it was over 100 and it failed repeatedly on my PS3, because of Sony's servers having random hiccups. It took three days and nights on a very fast Internet connection. Totally worth it, but still, by far the worst installation experience I've ever had.
Sarpedan
so it wasnt Hideo Kojima trolling speedrunners?
giganticroboticpenguin
There was an achievement to finish the game in under 3 hr. it made me realize how little gameplay there actually was.

To be fair, you can finish most games in way under three hours.

shadowmoon522
sadly, tim curry was actually the fourth celeb that was in that movie to die this year as Jaye P. Morgan died the day before he did at 94. her role in Home Alone 2 wasn't as big as the other 3, as she was only shown for a second from the back on the game show kevin was watching at the start of the film.
ignotoCiResto
I'm missing something here...
darthstormer
Trump shambles his way through a cameo appearance in Home Alone 2.
shadowmoon522
and then like 9 years after that cameo, he became a democrat which lasted about 8 years until he jumped back to the other side and started dragging everything into the gutter.

My teenager mentioned Upton Sinclair the other day out of the blue. His teacher is making all the students read through The Jungle. I don’t know if it’s normal curriculum but it sure is good timing.
FishieStardust
I know there's a nearby DSA related group that were reading that as well recently
Anakinstasia
It was required reading at my high school back in the early 2000s. Back then it was good to know, right now it's critical information.
ThaneofGlamis
Yeah we had to read it in hs back in 02 or something
Green11ndys
I have thrown up and had diarrhea multiple times this month, I am low key afraid to buy foods I used to get all the time.
rusrsdude
Best thing you can do is go fresh and wash them as well as you can. No already processed foods. Only ones where you can clearly see the ingredients and hopefully washable ingredients. Also don't eat at restaurants for a while.. maybe until Trump is out of office plus one year..
Green11ndys
That's easier said than done, I don't have a lot of fresh produce options in my area. I try to hit up farmers markets when I can. The processed stuff is cheaper and shelf stable.
rusrsdude
Well yeah, that's kinda what capitalism, and a bunch of other glaring factors, including non-walkable cities, give to the mid/lower class. Try your best for your own health and safety, maybe you can have an indoor garden for certain low maintenance foods, too.
Green11ndys
My goal is to move back in with my family when the lease goes up in December
lazybuthappy
Why? To monetize safe food?
aRabidGerbil
O
AlmostCertainlyNotPickles
From the plan itself, to "uncover the size of the welfare state" and cut government spending on those programs and pull back regulations on food production.
idiotsonfire
Translation: "We want to kill people and terrify them so they don't trust anything except our advertising."
lazybuthappy
So, it's like "why do I have to pay for food safety that poor people aren't?"
elusivekarma
The source provided doesn't really cover regulations and food safety at all. I think the food safety part likely isn't covered. It's just about not feeding poor people.
Caughtintheconcentricelipsesofchaosanditsinnatemadness
"we will privatize food safety so only some may afford it, and God will cleanse the flock..." Or some nonsense, I'm only half /s
CrazedAndBemused
Is there actually something different about these recalls vs prior years? When googling recalls over years it honestly seemed pretty inline with the only huge difference being a whole lot more media coverage. I just want to pin down what exactly is different about this year's.
Frobizzle
Just a lot of fearmongering and conspiracy theory nonsense.
tylerlarson
Taylor Farms bribes trump to have food safety inspections removed. Removing food inspections allows food company to ship food without dealing with delays from bad food. Bad food gives people the shits. Taylor Farms bribes trump to have FDA say it totally wasn't them.
TheFastpaws
They removed the people doing the safety inspections and the recalls are slow. This is just the tip of it getting worse. These are things that normally would have been caught in advance.
cancerriddenlung
...this year is an election year and that's all you need to know.
Caughtintheconcentricelipsesofchaosanditsinnatemadness
There is much more media coverage, but also more people being adversely effected. In previous years recalls would be issued and products were pulled quickly so numbers of people were very limited. Now it seems that these mechanisms are much slower so more people are becoming sick. I worked in food service for years and always paid attention to what warnings and recalls were being put out to the public.
CrazedAndBemused
See that does make more sense to me. It's like if a fire department was gutted - in the past they would put out fires right away, but now even with the same number of fires (or recalls) occurring as before things are taking so much longer that everyone is worse off. So it's not just about the number of recalls (which doesn't seem to be off trend) but the response to them.
Caughtintheconcentricelipsesofchaosanditsinnatemadness
You got it!
nothingunused
A few weeks ago I saw something that said the number of recalls isn't terribly higher than normal, but the number of people getting sick is 10-15 times as many as normal.
Caughtintheconcentricelipsesofchaosanditsinnatemadness
Yup, it's reaction vs prevention.
