For our election recently I was thinking of setting up the Thermonuclear Armageddon Party. Policy 1: immediate release of all nuclear weapons. Policy 2: Aim one warhead at Milton Keynes. Policy 3: Aim several warheads at France.
InTheBeginningWasTheNerd
At first I was going to comment something along the lines of "Typical American, can't even keep their societal collapse in private like civilised people," but then I realised one thing - no American can possibly know Milton Keynes.
(Mind you, the only reason I know about it is Good Omens.)
Curii
I mean it takes a very special kind of individual to build a sodding dual carriage way through the middle of the city, and put a roundabout every mile. That's like the Troll in chief move of road building that is.

#1 So I have been staring at it too long and I'm still not sure I understand: does he have to puff out his cheeks really hard to hit the buttons?
verhelstluk10
Also, what was he doing with the batteries? đ
PepperoniAndFingernailPizza
That is exactly what I'm wondering
sprySpace350
Same
meowmixup
I was thinking he would poke it through his cheek with his tongue.
OrionKaelin
If they made the fit right they wouldn't have to puff too hard. Like the buttons almost barley touch, or dont touch, and a very slight movement, even talking should be able to activate them,
supervillin
I'd have thought so too but they look pretty deep in the vid...
PepperoniAndFingernailPizza
I needed to know how they control #1. The comments here think it is your cheeks. Simple solution.

that rocket launch... still gives me shivers after all those years... a thing of beauty and joy forever
Klaustrix
Man there's just something about 80's / 90's anime.
Sageypie
Plot wise, I feel like the censorship of the time worked towards pushing storytelling in interesting ways. Tackling subjects in subtle ways that skirted around what would have otherwise been allowed, and being able to openly say things that today would need to be toned back to appease the algorithm. Happens differently with every generation, but the 80's/90's stuff just feels like it hit a really nice intersection of what was possible there.
Art wise, there's just this crispness to it.
Klaustrix
Yeah the writing was far more interesting and even the basic animation wasn't nearly as homogenous. Anime was still a style but it didn't all look so exactly the same. The
animation limitations were seen as a challenge to overcome, not a standardised cosmetic feature to emulate. Yes a lot of shots were very simple and still, but lots of shows went all out in some scenes to really show what they could do given the time and money and it gave those action scenes more punch.
HashMaster9k
I remember seeing it at an Arthouse Movie Theatre in the 90's when I was a pre-teen. Excellent film, but that fumbled love scene in it was awkward as fuck when sitting next to my dad...

This show was so disappointing for me. Cool art style, but nothing about the characters actually learning to survive, and none of the characters were interesting imo.

Not on Netflix or any streaming service in Germany :( The production designer is https://mas.to/@harriorrihar/
GravyEducation
Nice it was on HBO but never got optioned for a season 2 I'm reading. Netflix picked up, opportunity for a season 2 which it is perfectly set up for some amazing story. Don't sleep on Netflix. They're also about to wrap up one of my favorite shows, The Umbrella Academy. In case anyone out there likes to binge shows from start to finish

I got downvoted for putting a reminder on an artist request for an image that didn't have a reverse search result?
killernerd
I love that style of futurism. The big rockets and space stations just tickle me in all the right ways.
HashMaster9k
Pretty sure that's John Berkey. He was known for a very similar style.
fskn
That was my first thought, but then I couldn't find it using any reverse search engine. It doesn't have his signature either, so it might be AI generated.
HashMaster9k
Possibly. Must be on a home rig version, thoughâ Both DALLâ˘E 4 and Midjourney throw copyright errors on a creation prompt with Berkey's name in it. But it's not outside the realm of possibility.
Idsertian
#37 Know how I know this is AI? No, it's not the foot-hand in the background, it's the fact that's the face of the kid throwing a tantrum1/2
igooutsidesometimes
Yeah besides the uh... "hands", the fact they have all the same expression. You generally have to do a lot of extra work to get regions to do different things from each other.
Idsertian

#16 here's a deep counter-question for you: why would it not disappear?
Tarmaccian
Thatâs the key⌠why not clothes? Or the planet heâs on? What makes the boundary?
My theory is that Luke thought of the hand as part of himself. The Force flowed through it just like the flesh and bone of any other living thing. It conveniently solves the question of âwhat is life?â for the SW universe: sentience interacts with the Force, and oneâs sense of self defines them. Why should a robotic hand be any different from fingernails or teeth?
NateintheNorth

Clothing also then.

Depends on how attached you are. When Dale Gribble became one with the Force, his blue jeans were left in a pile but that hat and glasses sure as hell went with him.

My cheeks push forward ever so slightly when wince and bring my cheeks up or when smiling maybe that? đ¤ That would have to be sensitive it seems ( I know holding my fingers isn't the most scientific measurement, but it's what I got sitting on my couch and getting up and indulging this educational side quest sounds like a bit of work so my lazy side of ADHD wins this round)

I'm building a helmet maybe 10x more complex than this and let me tell you, whoever built this put in serious time. I expect to wrap my work up by October and I started at the beginning of the year.

I bought a 3D printer because my kids wanted to make cool stuff with me. Used it 10 times and itâs collecting dust. Now might be a good time for me to break it out again.

You should! If you pick up some 3d modeling skills you can really make incredible stuff.
