I always wondered how people pull faces from memory. Always scared me I couldn't. It took me until I was an adult to realize I'm face blind.
They didn't. They gave details so vague you could fit within 140 characters. Even the ones they show off aren't that close.
These are the best examples. The ones they CHOSE to represent her work. Might as well play "guess who"

You know that sense of a complete and detailed world around you? yeah, total illusion. The eye only sees in detail in a very small area & 1)
we're blind between points of focus, so what the brain gets is small snapshots of high detail and it stitches them together 2)
until you actually focus your eyes on it. during traumatic events our focus is very specific, so much of the surrounding detail is missed 4)
like a panorama made from multiple photos. But a lot of the in between space is completely invented by the brain, to fill in the gaps, 3)

I was assaulted and all I remember is his accent, I later saw a picture and recognised him but now hearing a similar accent or name is hard.
All things that could in theory apply to hundreds of people in a city with 10s of thousands. Or thousands of people in a bigger city. 1/2
It doesn't narrow things down enough, and even many of those "1 in 3" who were "caught" could be innocent. Forensic evidence is needed. 2/2
