Historically Salieri didn't have a feud with Mozart, but in the film one can understand why Mozart's crass nature drove him mad.

Salieri was dogged with rumors of him hating Mozart and being responsible for his death for decades after the fact.
In fact, the pair worked together on occasion, and by all accounts respected each other. Mozart even used a leitmotif of Salieri's in The Magic Flute, and Salieri tutored Mozarts son after Mozarts death.

A movie that doesn’t distort the facts would put you to sleep in the first 20 minutes. Even documentaries cut, condense and reorder to make the film more interesting to watch.

In its defense, the whole story is told by Salieri, who is an unreliable narrator.
In the original play, it's made more clear that Salieri is deliberately lying, falsely claiming he killed Mozart because infamy as a murderer is better than being forgotten.
Salieri did actually get comitted to a sanitorium towards the end of his life, claiming (due to a nervous breakdown from decade dealing with the rumors, as well as possibly having developed dementia) that he did poison Mozart.
