I mean, I was paying them (via coil) $5/mo for emerald, which seemed fair given how much time I spent here with an ad blocker on. then coil died and they decided they couldn't be arsed to setup a payment scheme that wasn't mobile-only. I'm still willing to pay, but I'm not willing to have their cancerous app on my phone so that google or apple can skim 30% of each month's payment.

Conversely, no one is. The ad revenue model has been broken for ages. Repeated decimation by adpocolypses and domination by the big ad companies means it's harder to stay afloat. every ad gets worse as no one is paying money except for the worst players out there. No one has money to spend.

My wife bought a bronco, which I'm assuming is why our TV got flooded with bronco ads. Only they had a collaborative ad with Alienware. And I think my phone heard the TV because now I'm getting Alienware ads all over. Targeted ads scrape the barrel of the incredibly rich data that companies steal from us and mostly get it wrong. They occasionally get it creepily right, and that's what ad targeting services sell, but they're not actually good at their jobs.
