An innocent man was falsely accused and beaten for a theft after a woman claimed he tried to steal her bag.
When police arrived and found the man's ID and belongings inside the bag, the woman reportedly said, "Oh. I got confused. They look the same. I'm sorry."
The incident has sparked outrage online, with many calling for accountability over false accusations that could have easily escalated.
GrumpyMe
Was she mistakenly "confused" (as per start of the video or was she the thief who got caught as per the end of the video?
Servo87
He uh... was a lot more peaceful than I would have been.
TheLastSpaceman
America usually seems to be confused about non-white folks
SwampApe75
i hate all this, wish he would of just snagged it hard enough to cause a slight flight in the air...could of saved himself from that lame punch, accountability for that first

I hope they shoot the guy that hit him, in the dick, don't want a casualty but him not breeding would benefit everyone
FutureBeachBum
As repayment, he should be able to hit her and the police. Straight across their faces.

travelling while black is very dangerous....
Shilzy
Poor guy. I hope he files charges against the guy who hit him. Doubt it will go anywhere though. so fucked up.

I dunno. There is a legal defense to crimes like this called, "self defense of another." However, that defense only works if you act reasonably in the defense of another. This was a crime.

I have a chip on my shoulder for things like this, because I was on the wrong end of it once. I was house sitting at someone's apartment, and a woman came to the door saying the grill sitting outside the apartment was theirs which had been stolen recently (I knew it wasn't because I was with them when they bought it).
I called up the owner and filled them in, and they talked to the woman for a moment. They said he didn't know where the receipt was, but they'd straighten everything out when they
keyblader1985
got back. The woman ended by saying that until then, she was taking the grill - I already knew that wasn't the deal so I told her no. She started freaking out screaming and saying she was going to get her brothers to shoot me. I'm not trying to get shot over someone else's grill, so I just let her take it and called the police.
They showed up a half hour later and listened to my story, then went to the woman's apartment to talk to her. They then came back to me and said, quote:
keyblader1985
"come on, man; just admit you stole it." She had a receipt, which was all they needed to call me a thief. Like I'd steal someone else's shit, display it outside, risk getting shot, and illegitimately call the police over a funky ass cheap Walmart grill that I'd be willing to bet other people there also owned.
The police basically said we had to settle it ourselves and left. Just one more reason I don't care for cops.
hsalonen3000
Both the woman and man "helping" should get charges for assault. The woman is clearly complicit in this.
PuppyBella
Hurrah! for the guy standing his ground, in the face of adversity and PHYSICAL ABUSE. That is a stupid, stupid woman.
marsilies
I bet the guy felt like he didn't have much choice, considering his ID was in the bag. What else was in there? His house keys maybe?

For God's sake, verify. There was plenty of time to determine whether the bag was actually hers without throwing any punches.
Ororon452
Verify? You do know this is the US?
Grendels2dCousinOnceRemoved
It's the Ditmas Avenue subway station in Brooklyn NY
drakcor
Literally with you 200% the guy could've have stepped in between them and verified shit. Instead he chose to punch the falsely accused person who couldn't defend himself as it would risk him losing his stuff.
AtmaDarkwolf
but then the white 'hero' couldn't get his chance to 'administer punishment' to the 'evil black man' and confirm all his bent maga beliefs. Won't anyone think about the poor, poor racists?
Euchre
That guy could have easily gone full force and thrown that woman off the bags, and booked it. He did not. Plenty of reason to call police and just let them sort it out.
Sticklebrickk
That would require critical thinking
mksu
Black man getting accused by a white woman never stood a chance.
livingonagiantfireball
Women should be charged for theft attempt, disturbing the peace.
Snooj
Different place, different time, we wouldn't have even heard about it. There just would have been one less person in the world.
gardenias
Don't forget he was assaulted while in the process of defending his property! How modern-America.
BolenArrow
that lady does not look white she looks hispanic af. not saying she is but my first thought wasn't white xD

Did you get out your Phrenology apparatus there Franz Boas?

Lol did you you fucking muppet? Could literally say the same thing.

She’s really digging in those nails….
GandalfTheGrey78
The guy attacking him was part of the scam.
FreeTheTiddy
What a shame. This man didn't deserve any of this. He wasn't being aggressive. He didn't even try to hit back, man... Come the fuck on.
philmoregraves
Could have escalated quickly? My dude idk if u noticed but that white dude was swinging very quickly before anyone could verify shit. That DID escalate quickly. The man who owns the bags wasn't trying to run off or anything either. I mean we all like a little citizen delivered justice but fuck make sure ur actually doing the right thing, not assuming u are. Get the damn police, I say that not while not liking cops. White dude and lil woman should have charges but I bet they don't
6Oh4
White dork should be arrested for assault as well as the woman for falsely accusing the dude.
worm61
He could easily have gotten killed over this. Black people HAVE been killed for shit like this.
urusername2
She should be charged
kaijuuGold
he shoulda cracked her on the subway
Lionanar
Okay, both people claim the bag is theirs. Sure, that can happen. But.... is this how adult people deal with situations like that ??
Things like this happened to me alot when I was about 5 and my brother was about 4.
I did not take this long to solve it.
It was so important to the guy who punched him, to make sure that woman got her bag, that he fuc ked off long before he made sure the woman got her bag. (He didnt give a shit)
tirpider
lead has ruined the US for generations
ignotoCiResto
last 3 seconds of the video: the woman is a thief.
marsilies
You forget the racism and sexism in play. It's assumed the black man is taking advantage of the woman.
B166ERMaximus
Idiot bystanders… just ask them both to say what’s in the bag, politely ask them both to hand it over and then run away!
Affray
This sort of thing always solidifies why I'd never let a jury of my peers decide my fate in a prison situation. Most people are fucked.
kEMup
“What’s in the baggggggg?!”
Totallycasual
Exactly, 3d party could have held onto the bag and asked them both what was inside.
drakcor
I hope the white guy who chose to punch instead of actually be a man and break shit up, gets sued for assault.
vanishinggirl
Seriously though- it’s quite obvious by his actions that he’s not trying to steal the bag- if he was and there are bystanders wouldn’t he give up?? This asshat who punched him deserves charges against him!
Imademyselfsquirtle
Assault and battery.
flordelasantillas
Battery is when there is unlawful physical contact or striking of another person. Assault is the creation of fear (no contact).
StellarJay77
100% correct. Violence should never be your first go to especially when the black dude isn't being threatening in any way he's just holding onto his bag so he doesn't lose it. This is an unprovoked assault and battery (many people think assault means physical contact, it does not).
neptix
the definitions of assault and battery are different depending on jurisdiction, so this one get's confusing in a hurry
StellarJay77
True, but generally the criteria for assault is met simply by threatening violence or bodily harm which is evident in the body posturing of the white guy well before he throws a punch. The criteria for battery is met when there is any sort of physical contact made with the intent to harm. Battery is typically a much more serious charge as well that comes with a much higher level of punishment. I hope this black man files charges against the woman and the man who punched him.
neptix
Oh, absolutely, they both deserve to do time. Laws can get complicated though, for example, battery is not mentioned in our laws here, and assault comes in various degrees, from simple assault to assault with a weapon or aggravated assault causing bodily harm.
asm80dfa8sdfj
On that note, I have tried to say things like "no, that's sexual battery" before and gotten outrage thrown at me, even though it's literally a worse offense.
StellarJay77
"Never argue with fools - they'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience." - Mark Twain
Fuckimgurcunts
Yeah like punching is a real thing but homie is just chilling. That dude failed to read the situation badly.
StellarJay77
That dude is a racist asshole I can almost guarantee that. He's probably always looking for an excuse to beat up a "bad black person".
TexMexHex
I hope that woman's life is ruined over this. Being a stupid cunt isnt an excuse for any behavior. Fuck that stupid bitch
Imademyselfsquirtle
Fuck that guy who commuted assault and battery.
mksu
Let's not overlook the wannabe hero who kept punching him either.
pgdave
There's a pretty decent chance that she's got some mental problems - that doesn't mean what she did was okay, but I'm not sure I'd jump all the way to "I hope this [potentially mentally disabled] woman's life is ruined"
Terramotus
Are you kidding me? With a black man and a white woman, there is a VERY good chance the cops would have just shot him on sight. If he had been less calm, less collected, less good at expressing himself, or just less lucky, he would be dead right now.
She is a danger to the life of others. What good is a legal system if it doesn't keep people who are dangerous under control?

pgdave
I don't think I said that she wasn't dangerous, or that he didn't need protecting - I said that she seems like she might have some mental problems and I don't think jumping to "ruin her life" is good.
ignotoCiResto
it's fast but it's here, lemme paraphrase it "the bag owner was the guy, the woman tried to STEAL it and when she didnt manage she started to drag it claiming it was her".
That's not mentally disabled, that's criminal behavior. And by how she did play it, repeated criminal behavior that bore fruits before.

somehow I missed writin the most important part: "in the last three seconds of the video there is the explanation, it's fast but it's here"

I sure hope she got arrested for the false accusation and for risking his life.
Ororon452
Noooope
agoogua
Do you have a link or are you just saying that?
curialis
the person that assaulted him over it was even worse
Imademyselfsquirtle
That is battery.
CambreathdTheSecound
and theft... :)
AtmaDarkwolf
Hope the guy who popped him in the mouth gets some slapback too.
emu314159127001
That's so funny to even hope for. Sadly
SlightChungus
Oh absolutely not she's absolutely free and clear he gets assaulted and honestly I'm surprised that was all that happened.
StellarJay77
That woman wasn't confused at all. She was trying to steal it and got caught so played the "it's my bag" card because it's a black dude. She 100% knew what she was doing and it's disgusting. I've seen this BS a few times working security. Actual confused people don't act like this.
WackyWavingInflatableArmFlailingTubman
Plot Twist: Black man was an expert magician and put pocketed all his belongings into her bag as a measure to steal, but the woman saw thru is sleight of hand https://media1.giphy.com/media/v1.Y2lkPWE1NzM3M2U1OHpnNXFkY2N5dHJhbGoweml2eGdlb3k0aG10ODViYmUwZHVtazcwayZlcD12MV9naWZzX3NlYXJjaCZjdD1n/xT1XGT91NEvxt5vCVy/200w.webp
worm61
She thought she could get away with it by weaponizing racism. She was almost right.
PalaverQuader
she would have played the "its my bag" card regardless of skin color.
worm61
No, this was definitely an attempt to weaponize her white privilege. She didn’t target a Black man by chance.
4etherling
Why would she stay until the police came if she was genuinely trying to steal it?
StellarJay77
Because she knows there's a decent chance she will face no consequences regardless of how it pans out and if he has nothing in the bag that provides proof of ownership she might end up with it anyway.
whatthewoda
She can pretend that she was confused, and get people to side with her.
asm80dfa8sdfj
Plausible deniability. If she left it would be obvious she knew it wasn't hers. She has to stay if she wants to play the "I thought it was mine" card.
AloneWithMyThoughts
if she leaves the scene, probably harder to claim confusion afterwards. Especially if she has no issue getting physical over it in the first place.
