Sunk by the British in March 1918, raised and was being refitted by them when the war ended.

The blueprints for these must be frustrating as hell. Even before modern day layouts this must be one super long print with only a few close ups and everything just smashed in together.

Just give them more amphetamines. Project foreman, probably.

Is it me or do Germans have a submarine “fetish”? WWI and they thought submarines would win WWII? Later in popular culture.

No ambiguity here -

If it moves, oil it. If it doesn't move, paint it.

Nothing would be scarier than working on a sub at war.

Really?....................................................................................................BOO!

I imagine that knowing these controls very well would be super rewarding

If German grammar was a submarine.

If you see anything egg-like on the floor. DO NOT lean over it!

"Klar?! KLAR?! What the hell do KLAR MEAN?" Maybe a little obscure reference, but it was the first that popped into mind. Plus i actually rewatched the movie about a month ago. :)

My god thats a lot or hand-wheels on valves! I served on a US nuclear sub in the 70s & 80s and I always upvote undersea vessels. Keep calm and dive, dive, dive!

Looks a steampunk's fantasy bedroom.

i doubt any steampunk ever created put that much valves on stuff. this is valvepunk

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

True, but valvepunk is a rebellious child of steampunk, who, instead of dyeing it's hair black put valves all over itself.

Guys, I’ll be honest with you… I’m not sure what any of those valves do.

I think I'm already getting a headache just thinking about how some would have to know what they all do.

At this stage, I'm afraid to ask

"Who needs valves when you have a video game controller?" -billionaire genius

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

they regulate the flow of liquids and gasses in pipes.

Looks like something H R Giger designed.

Must be why I 🖤 it!

My first thought exactly, but less phallic

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Are your thoughts usually especially phallic?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not enough sexual organs

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Even people of the day and used to that era of engineering must have been like "This is fuking wild!"

U-1206 was lost that way, because someone opened the wrong valve on the *toilet* https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_submarine_U-1206#Fate

Russian Foxtrot class subs were basically copies of German Type XXI U-boats. You had to know what depth you were at to use the toilet, because the flush valve just let in sea water, and you controlled how much by how hard you pressed the pedal. There was no safety check valve on it. If you stepped too hard for the depth, the water could fill the room in an instant. (There were also only two per boat, one just for the officers.)
