This happened to a friend of mine. This was during my active duty military time when we went to school to clean teeth. Any who... She was cleaning his teeth and when he told her this she just gave up. He obviously didn't care and she didn't want to waste her time. I don't blame her.

We know you don't floss. Don't lie. You either aren't doing it right or at all but when we see your gums are beet red, you are a liar and we know it. We still help but it's silly to lie.

This is my office. It says clearly on our sign that we'll honor this, unless you have perio problems or need a deep cleaning. Giving you a regular cleaning when you need a deeper one would be not only neglectful of us but harmful to you. Plus... don't be that ass that comes in to yell at people. You come off as the jerk you are, you make people who did nothing wrong cry because they think they did do something wrong when they didn't and you piss off dental assistants (namely me) who want to punch you after you've insulted almost every person in the office.

That's my crew you're talking about and you can go ahead and go to another office... they'll tell you the same thing. And I don't want you to come back. Not unless you have an apology.

(Sorry, this happened recently and I'm still very pissed off at what happened....)

I seriously would have to be that strong to do that to the cavitron. (Reference picture: http://www.lionsdentalsupply.com/files/57488441.jpg) It spits out water and makes noise. This thing cleans teeth, not pull em. But the amount of tar-tar (Reference picture: http://rusnakfamilydentistry.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Screen-shot-2014-08-21-at-9.06.42-AM.png Also called calculus) was enough to make the patient believe we're cleaning off teeth.

Not. Even. Fucking. Kidding. Turns out it was a huge composite (tooth colored) filling. There was decay under it which made it fail. Apparently the same thing happened to the guy years before. I was relieved it wasn't my fault, but when I first told the doc I was in near tears.

Man, if I was given a dollar every time I heard this I'd be more rich than Bill Gates. On another note I respond with "Well let's see if we can't change your mind about that." Or something to that effect. I also don't sugar code. I'll be gentle, but I'm not going to lie to you. I don't believe it to be helpful. Setting up false hope for zero pain, is setting us up for more dental fear. EDIT: *sugar coat* Sorry guys.

FUCK YOU IF YOU DO THIS! Screw the caps rule. I hate you so much for doing this... It's not helpful, and you're prepping your poor kid for unnecessary dental fear. It makes our job harder, it makes dental work harder on kids, and you're terrifying your child. Good job, asshole. It's your fault that little Jimmy Jr. is screaming his head off.

Both of these is for our safety and yours. You could accidentally get stabbed by our sharp instruments. You could get us stabbed. Anyone in the medical field will tell you how terrifying it is to have an 'incident'. I personally get mad and scared. I cry and curse. I hate you and wonder if I contracted AIDS. It's that serious.

Do not touch my doc and do NOT jerk your head away from us while we work.

Let us know and raise your hand opposite of the doctor. (Hit me if you like I hold no sharp stuff. Don't touch the Hygienist either)

What did I just say?!?!

I'll tell ya what I'm not saying. I'm not saying EVERYONE is faking a gag reflex. But I can tell. This guy was faking. Mainly cause he would gag before I even got close to his teeth. When I told him the risks, he was one of the most well behaved patients of the day.

This doesn't apply to all. Some women are babies, some kids are tough cookies. But this is what I experienced the most. Sorry guys. It does break my heart to see yall so scared. I also never got bit in the pediatrics section, first time I did get bit... was by a 40 year old male. Big guy too, bodybuilder type. It was cause he was nervous.

Now, these were just some of my experiences. Others maybe different and I'm not licensed to diagnose, but I like to help. Other places might be as bad as you say, but I was held to a very high standard that I keep. Nothing but the best for the people who see me on the worst days of their lives.

I hated flossing until I used those dental floss sticks. Super fast & way less messy.

Dental..

Wife's in dental school. See's things in test patients mouths that are just so horrid it's a wonder they have any teeth to inspect.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It can get worse too. But to give patients a confident smile is so worth it. I've teared up at awesome results.

Sugar code. Ha

Lying to a dentist is like jaywalking: I'm gunna fucking do it anyway

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lying to us is like having a third asshole in your elbow, it's pointless.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I enjoy that you just skipped the pointlessness of the second asshole and just jump right to three. Three assholes is truly pointless.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I go straight to the triple dog dare.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

1/2 I went to the dentist a month a n half ago bc my filling fell out (about 10y.o) and they xrayd and turned out there was a fucking

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

cyst attached to my root so they had to pull it. It turned out that it had been growing for at LEAST 3 years. Scarred for life.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm so sorry. But don't let it stop you from going in. That could lead to future problems. If a decayed tooth isn't treated...bad things.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So far so good. Went for a cleaning about 2 weeks ago and picture of health and I stopped smoking on the 1st so they are pleased!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yay! Oh man I've never met you and I'm so proud!! I am sorry for your bad experience. But I hope they get better in the future.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Funny story? My dentist actually just went to prison for embezzlement last week. So,onto a new one!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

floss ? ... everytime i go to the fair.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dental Hygienists make such good money, good luck and congrats on your position.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm not a hygienist. Thanks though. I cleaned teeth in the military, but it wasn't hygiene schooling. The market for hygienist sucks here.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So you're a dentist then? My friends in the Airforce and they are paying her tuition in dental school. My wife's brother was an Army Dent

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Naw, just a regular dental assistant. I was an assistant in the military (air force). They sent me to prophy school to do simple cleanings

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How do you guys tolerate those people with the most disgusting teeth on this planet? Or do they just never visit you guys?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They visit. We tell them stuff to help them but every one on a while... -shudders-

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had an intense fear of the dentist years ago because when I was younger, I had a cavity filling with no kind of pain relief whatsoever.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh my god! That's so wrong!! Did you tell that doc you were in pain?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well I couldn't. I had every tool in my mouth. My mom wanted me sedated or something but he refused.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yea that's wrong on so many levels. You must have been a very good kid not to scream. If that doc is still practicing, report him. 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you came to see us, I would try my very best to make EVERY dental appointment from here on out the best ever.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It was long ago. I must have been like 8 or 9. I would have been better off having my grandfather do it since he did dentistry in the navy.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"She was cleaning his teeth and when he told her this she just gave up." Great work ethic right there.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Sounds like it was a military teeth cleaning, like he didn't pay and go to the dentist or anything. It was standard

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Indeed it was. We do our best for those who want help... But it's hard for those who don't care. And prophy techs had it rough.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oooh, okay. Pardon my ignorance.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He told her he wasn't going to change. He knew proper hygiene but ignored it. How can we help those who don't want to help themselves?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

And we're not their fucking mother.

'They told me all that stuff last year. You're wasting your time.' He had no intention of listening. Recalling the story used to make me mad

He had the free will to not brush, we have it to not help you. Especially if you don't want it.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Now, it just makes me sad. That's a young man who'll need dentures and still not care

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Being able to see a dentist is the one thing that I look forward to most about getting a job. No health insurance SUCKS.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just do your very best to keep your teeth clean. I understand the insurance bit. It does suck.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have such a bad gag reflex and I hate it when I go in. Like I sometimes gag just from brushing my back teeth. It fucking sucks

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And I'm always very patient with that. But that dude, it was like he'd never even heard the words gag reflex let alone have it.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'M ALSO BREAKING THE CAPS RULE TO TELL YOU TO PLEASE OUTLINE YOUR TEXT!!!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It wasn't an option where I was editing the pictures.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

in defense of the bleeding gums... I floss almost every day, and my gums still bleed. My teeth are so close together that I have to put (1)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

immense PRESSURE on the floss to get it in between the teeth. It usually pops down and cuts my gums. even the hygienist does it. =/

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That is excusable. That's understandable. Not for the ones who don't brush so often that I can see build up

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I get skeeved out by the texture of my teeth if I do not brush. So I brush a few times a day. =/

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you live that smooth feeling try an electric toothbrush (specifically sonic care). Smooth teeth all day long!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have one! It feels so odd to use a "normal" one now... I was thinking of switching to a silicon one, which would be much easier to clean.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've been a dental assistant for 15 years - have never worried about getting aids via needle-stick, not even when I worked at a prison.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Congrats (?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Down vote if you like, I just take that sort of thing seriously. I'd be foolish not to worry. I can't let my guard down like that.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

...and I don't know any dental professional who has.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I take needle stick incidents seriously. My training drilled that into me.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I take them seriously too, and procede accordingly. But I have never felt at risk from AIDS from them.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yea, my training like to do fear tactics. Expect the worse. But even now if I got stuck, I'd still be scared of bad results
