I got the most interesting closing question I've ever had in an interview: if I was a mythological creature, what would I be, and why?

Right?

"Okay, I have a silly sarcastic answer, and a serious answer. Sarcastically: a billionaire with morals and values social justice issues, and isn't an asshole. Serious answer: a Griffon. They like mountains, some people think they were based on eyewitness reports of dinosaur fossils, they liked mountains, and they were beloved by the Scythians, and I do love me anything Scythian."

Sat on top of the mountain afterward for about two hours, thinking about what, if I had all of time and space to choose from, what job I'd want most of all.

I came to a conclusion.

I'd be a Roman augur. Watch birds to foretell the future. I remembered the dream I had earlier this year where I was an augur of sorts and killed the man who desired to be a ruler because my people had decided we were done with that shit.

I started thinking about what birds I've always considered to be good omens for myself. That's when things got interesting.

First up, the Cordilleran Flycatcher came back, hanging out close by, singing directly above me. Sorry, Western flycatcher now. It's always a favorite. Their old name is also a favorite word, hell, "Cordilleran [some number]" was my Livejournal account back in the ancient days of the internet.

Then a lone Band-tailed Pigeon came, and sat in the lower branches of the next Ponderosa Pine next to me. This was the first of these I'd seen in almost 4 years. The last one I saw was at the same spot, incidentally. It sat in the tree, watching, for about fifteen minutes or so as a Pewee continuously harassed a pair of Steller's Jays.... and as I turned...

Please pause for this musical interlude for the inside of my head.

Anyway, as I turned to face the open sky, turning off my camera, a freaking Bald Eagle flew over.

The absolute golden moment, though, was when a Brown Creeper flew in and landed 5 feet away on the trunk of the tree in front of me. I see those super-rarely, and they're such a weird, goofy bird that always makes me smile. It's a bird I always associate with a good day.

"Huh, if I actuallt was an augur, I'd say good news is coming my way, what with so many birds associated with cool personal vibes around."

So anyway, got home, went to Kayla's to help make food mix for Princess Monster Truck, Pepper, and Baja, had Pad Thai, watched Brooklyn 99.... got BACK home..

Got a phone call with an offer from the meadery.

It's less than I wanted, but it's a job, I'll be around fermentation again, and pay will increase in time.

I dreamed I got into a rather brutal barfight because someone was saying there wasn't a Genocide in Gaza. I also ended up stabbing them with a bronze dagger, but that was the other guy's fault for insinuating brown people deserved it while I was in my Scythian costume.

Dream ended with the judge saying that I was sentenced to community service, and that I really should be less literal with my historical re-enacting.
