Last post didn't disand I reached Trusted so here's some more stories for you guys! To clarify: apparently "carny" to most people means the sleazy dudes at state fairs and such. I work in an amusement park, I wear a polo and khakis, most of my coworkers are high school/college students on summer break.

FP Edit: two FP posts in one day? Shit guys, thanks. Send me pictures of your dogs, I'm moving into college today and I already miss my pup.

First post: http://imgur.com/gallery/L1Arm

Anyways. A lot of people ask me if they 'slip something my way,' I can guarantee a win. Not how it works, games are either completely based on skill, or a mixture of luck and skill.

This lil shit. I was trying to get her to move over to the fence so she could play her game while her mom helped her older brother, she legit snorted at me like a pig. instead of helping, her dad just starting laughing. I didn't ask her again, when the mom noticed she wasn't playing she laid into me. Sorry lady, not my fault.

Don't do this. Ever. I don't know why, but as annoyed as people get when they get "scammed" out of their money, they seem very flippant with it when paying for games, just dropping it in the payment box when I'm not looking. If there's a crowd of 10 people at the counter, and I didn't see who put the money in, then I'm just gonna ask the crowd. If somebody else steps up to play your game, there's nothing I can do.

Y'all are gonna think I'm crazy. There's a TL;DR for this one.

Every day I drive to work, I see this groundhog/gopher on the side of the road, without fail. The first day I don't see it is the day the lady tried to steal a prize from frog fishing, second day I don't see it is the busiest day of the year, third day I don't see it is the slowest day of the year.

So I'm thinking that this gopher is indicative of my day at work. I start to look forward to seeing this gopher. If I don't see the gopher, it's gonna be a bad day. Without fail, gopher days are good days, non-gopher days are bad days.

On my last day, guess fucking what. The gopher is roadkill.

On my *last day*. Not the day before, or the day after. My last day, the gopher is dead. I'm js.

TL;DR: gopher is a symbol for my workday, is redneck dinner on my last day.

At poster darts, you can opt to shoot for a little printed out star to get a giant stuffed animal. I always stress, you have to land the dart *inside* the star, not just on the square piece of paper. Without fail, if the dart hits the paper outside the star, I tell them it doesn't count, they tell me I never said that. Even if I hadn't said it, it's on the sign. Please, try to scam the scammer.

We're watching your money the whole time, for our own sake as well as yours - we don't want you to pay the wrong amount, and we don't want our personal banks to be off when making change. So if you don't put money in, we know. It's normally not worth the trouble to go after them for just a couple bucks, and they never win anything worthwhile anyways.

Ring toss is the biggest culprit for this. Get a ring on a bottle, win a giant stuffed animal!! If it sounds too easy to be true, only play when you're feeling lucky.
Larger prizes = more difficult games, easier to get roped into the never-ending cycle of "there's no *way* I'll miss it next time." Likewise, don't get pissed if you get a small prize at a "winner every time" game. You got a prize, be happy.

Seriously, the only place you'll find rigged games are circuses and fairs, and even then I'm not so sure. If you're in a permanent establishment, the games probably aren't rigged. Sure, they look easier to win than they are, but you can win every prize. The games department alone makes so much bank, handing out a couple $40 jumbo prizes every day doesn't do shit to our profit margin.

Also, if you really want a prize, just ask to buy it. It'll be fucking expensive, but you can do it if you're really dedicated.

I kinda became known for this. We had music going at all times, to draw people in and give us something to do. Impromptu lip sync battles make passerbys happy, and when they look my way they see the prizes behind me, and suddenly it's "just one game."

Honestly though, it's just great to make people happy. These days a little bit of a smile can mean the world to somebody.

In my other post I talked about the boy vs girl prizes, this is kind of an extension. Kid really wanted this car poster, but he got the Marilyn Monroe poster right next to it. I was in the middle of my "aww man, did you want the Porsche instead?" spiel, when the dad cuts me off and says "Hah! He hit a chick poster!"

The kid was probably 8 years old, he broke down crying on the counter. Seriously, if you do this, you're a dick. Brought out the Porsche poster, but it didn't really cheer him up at that point.

Parents think they know everything. Duck Pond was probably the game most often called Rigged. Seriously? It's duck pond, you pick up a rubber duck and get a prize. There's no two ways about it.

Disclaimer: happened to a coworker, I was running another game nearby.

If a family member is so drunk you have to continually apologize for them, maybe don't bring them out in public. The kicker: she was a mom with her extended family and children, starting at age 6 or 7.

We're in an amusement park. You're gonna have to be more specific than that.

Kids get so dejected about midway games. This boy was sad he never won anything, threw his whiffle ball on the board, it rolls neatly into the jumbo. He brought home a zebra as tall as he was and the biggest fucking smile.

If you go to a park with a free show of any kind, it's probably not shit like most people expect, but actual paid performers. We had five acrobats that did a Cirque du Soleil style show a few times a day, right across from the midway. You always knew what time it was from the pre-show music playing, and usually knew exactly what part of the show they were at, once you'd seen it a few times.

If you had a shift that ended the same time a show started, hearing that music come on was the highlight of your day.

This one still makes me laugh. Guy was holding fried dough, kids were playing a game. A bee was flying around his daughter's hair, so with a perfectly straight face he just threw the fried dough at his daughter's head. Powdered sugar everywhere. His only apology was "I don't like bees, yo."

That's all I got, hopefully I'll be back this time next year with another riveting post!

One of my favorite moments was when my buddy broke a machine that he got a jackpot on. So they just gave him a fuck load of tickets.

@OP did you work at holiday world by any chance?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No, it's a small locally owned park.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The gopher's job was done, he was no longer needed. RIP good luck gopher

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Did anybody else ever play one of those weird group VR games?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I too worked at an amusement park....the jumbo prizes were poorly made and super cheap. we hung them up with hooks that damaged the prize.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I won a goldfish at the fair once. That fucker survived for so long I thought he was secretly being replaced.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Where is this magical land of fun and games that sounds like a really good time? I'm asking for kids I know....

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As an Australian, "fried dough"??

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's a soft, spongy, sweet, deed fried bread, usually with powdered sugar or cinnamon. On my home planet of Canada, we call 'em beavertails.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Oh, sounds delicious. Thank you :)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So... It has been about a year...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You know, it wasn't until the last century or so that pink became a girl color. It used to be a boy color, symbolized vitality or something

Isn't fried dough a donut?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My husband won me a GIANT cat for $1 at our stampede this year. The carny was sooo mad lol...didn't have to play any more games that night:D

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm not familiar with that kind of stampede. Care to enlighten me?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm sure loads of parents just say it's rigged so that the kids don't nag them about wanting to play it.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My favorites are the air gun shoot-the-star game, the balloon-burst dart game, and the squirtgun racing game. Those are fun.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Back when I was a ride-op at an amusement park, we had a thing called 'shill credit,' where you got coupons to play the games on slow days.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Theory being that employees in civilian attire would make the games look more fun, and we'd just turn the prizes back in later.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So after half a summer of practice, some friends and I playing games every break we got, we got to be fairly good. We went to a competing

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

park on our day off and cleaned up, like, ridiculously, on their games. So it became a thing we did. We'd gather the change from under rides

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

we'd take it to the competing park, we'd win every damn toy we could, and then we took them to the police station. Why, you may ask?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Were the acrobats the Flying Graysons?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're not a carny if you don't work at a carnival.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

The kid and the jumbo zebra was my favorite.

10 years ago | Likes 50 Dislikes 0

I had that experience when I was 8. Wheel of fortune. Never won a price before. Mom shakes her head as I wanna play. So my grandma goes..

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

to give me some money "It's just two bucks, let that kid have some fun" bam, 4 foot tall stuffed elephant. No idea how we transported it

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Do you still have it?

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yup. It's a bit torn around the trunk and neck from when we were moving a few times. But I still got it

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Are you a Carny if you work at an amusement park? Now I think you work for Six Flags.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What game had the worst odds, and how bad were they?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ring toss. ~1 in 750 rings would win. Sweet prizes though, and you got a sick hat if you bought enough rings

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I don't have anything witty or important to say. I just like your two posts and want you to know that.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So how bad was the day Good Luck Gopher died?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Carnival games are still less rigged than casino games. Your skill can actually have a meaningful influence on the outcome with some games.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's all about balls in holes.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A game of chance isn't really rigged though. A roulette wheel that can be influenced by the house is rigged; luck-based isn't rigged.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I sort of consider probability and the design of the game as it being rigged. Not like - hand on the wheel to cheat rigged. Rigged by design

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well yeah, but that's the house profit. On a timeline to infinite, it favors the house, but individuals can still be favored by luck.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep, that's how probability works. If it didn't, casinos would not exist, and not rake in obscene amounts of money.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Which goes back to the idea of "rigged" vs "profit" -- it's kinda like saying the gas station is rigged because they take more than the

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

play black jack.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's one of the few casino staples where you have meaningful influence, but if you can count, like I can, they kick you out. Kinda sketchy

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just don't count. I know how to, but I don't. I just play the odds, usually play by the book, and generally come out even at the end of play

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I love these work stories. I'm a mortician.... boy do I have some stories for y'all.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

how long did it take to get over the "escaping gas" noises of the deceased?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It doesn't happen too often, at least from my experience. The smells... the smells are what stay with you for some time.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

@OP, where did you work at?

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Probably shouldn't say the name, just to be safe. It's a small park though, most/all who come into the park live <45minutes away

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I work for a larger theme park... all of this is true.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I also work for a theme park. Our games are legit. All of this is true.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I don't but i did stay at a holiday inn last night ????

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So you know too then!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So that narrows it down to Adventure Land or Wally World.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Did you ever get people who were really good, winning much much more than typical odds?

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I worked in a park owned by people who owned a few other parks. You could tell when a employee of another park was visiting since they'd..

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

get a special wrist band. Game operators from other parks with the same game were almost always great at the games and would win prizes.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We didn't have a limit, but after a few times of this happening no one was allowed to play a game if they had one of those wrist bands.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We have a 2 major prize/day limit, but I do remember a grandpa who came in probably every week or so to win 2 prizes @ ring toss, then leave

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

Christmas shopping, savvy Grandpa style ;)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2/2 big stuffed animals and left

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

there was a guy like that at one i went to a long time ago. they had original xboxes available as prizes too. dude just took the 1/2

When I was in Liseberg, Gothenburg, a group of bros ironically bought pink sparkly bunnyears. 10y old boy sees them, wants to mimic them /1

10 years ago | Likes 109 Dislikes 2

Asks his dad for a pair of pink ones, his mom says pink is for girls. Dad just glares at her, buys the pink ones and tells him he looks /2

10 years ago | Likes 109 Dislikes 2

Great. Mom just shakes her head, but the kids struts around proud as a rooster. Good guy dad.

I always go out of my way to take beautiful 2yo daughter to the girly toys AND to the dinosaurs and cars and superhero action figures.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

She can point out (and say) Batman.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

this is the kind of dad i'd love to be one day.

10 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

Parents who tell kids something is only for girls/boys annoy me so much! If it isn't operated with your genitalia, sex doesn't matter!

10 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 3

If it isn't operated with your genitalia, it probably isn't sex.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 8

Blowjobs aren't sex for the giver, anal isn't sex for the bottom, and feeling up some tits isn't sexual. Thanks!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

Good job on reading "probably" as "absolutely". Well done.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

sex: "either of the two main categories ... into which humans ... are divided on the basis of their reproductive functions. synonyms:gender"

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Yeah, that's definitely the sole & only meaning of the word "sex".

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

(although I would argue that gender isn't an exact synonym. Gender is more mindset (both cultural and internal) while sex is physical)

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

that happened to me. i wanted the unicorn poster, hit the male model in the speedo. was made fun of and (1)
