The network has already elected not to renew his show when the current season contract whatever the fuck runs out. Presumably whatever cost they would pay for ending it early is higher than just not renewing it at the end.
Stephen has been taking advantage of this dynamic to troll as hard as he can and God bless his little gremlin heart for it.

I think it would be a very good idea to force Colbert to interview the other guys, too. I mean, especially now he's in his "I am the finding out to your fucking around" stage.

The problem with the "equal time rule" is the same problem with religion in public school... you can't show favoritism to religion, SO if you teach one religion you have to teach all religion... at that point the curriculum is mostly teaching all religions as comprehensively as all others and there's no room for the fundamentals like math, literacy, science, etc.
There's a lot more than just two parties in America, and it'd be entirely too easy for every small party, including one person parties

Not exactly. I actually liked that we got to learn other religions at my catholic high school because it gave me more perspective on why I'm no longer a catholic. Though it was two-four classes(?) worth, and not the whole curriculum. Also, they were able to teach everything else because religion class was basically only one per semester. It worked, but likely not how they intended as I went to catholic school for twelve years and I'm no longer a catholic.

(Again, I can't quite remember how many classes we ultimately had, but they were all broad summaries, similar to how US History is taught: quickly and avoiding the parts they might not like to talk about. Though to their credit, my religion teacher was pretty open about the good parts about other religions, surprisingly.)

The Fairness Doctrine was actually a good thing and like all good things, it was abolished by Ronald Reagan. Broadcasters actually had to air opposing view points on public issues. With that gone, corporate interests were able to completely dominate the public discourse. Abolishing the Fairness Doctrine allowed Rush Limbaugh and eventually Fox News to be a thing. The news is able to cover a variety of viewpoints but that would mean less time for propaganda.

sure but I mean more to say the problem with the current enforcement of it is that it's being used as a cudgel to silence one of the two major parties, and also that those two major parties have never had to give equal time to any other parties or candidates.

There are some critiques. Like, for example, in the vaccine debate you'd have to give equal airtime to antivaxxers even though their position is patently wrong.

That's actually not true. Prior to Reagan, conspiracy theories were not given equal time to scientific fact. You could argue that they have much more time now that it's gone. The Fairness Doctrine doesn't require you to give equal time. It merely states that opposing viewpoints be represented. Secondly, it's up to the discretion of the broadcaster what constitutes contrasting views on an issue.
