Throw a bag of flour over it
Smother it. Water on grease/alcohol/chemical/etc fires is BAD. It has a chance to accelerate and exacerbate the problem.
oscarmatic
Cover it with a lid if you have one that will fit tightly. Or throw lots of baking soda on it.
Tantan11

At home, if you have no CO2 extinguisher, sodium bicarbonate, sand or anything to cover up the flame and restrict O2 consuptiom
Heidasaurus
I think you smother it? That may be wrong
TheCeilingIsLava
'twas alcohol though. Water would have put it out eventually, if she hadn't decided to dump it
Corona688
How would water put it out?
Astramancer
Alcohol dissolves in water, and has to be fairly high percentage to be able to burn. Dilute it enough, fire goes out.
She already tried that... What she should have done, dumped that container of water into the sink then put it over the flames to smother it
You're able to see the fact that the bowl is extremely full. The dumping idea was dumb af, but she wouldn't have been able to carry it. js.

Wanna know something really stupid? In home ec class we were told to never put out a grease fire with water because the grease would just (1
rise to the top and keep burning. Teacher never even attempted to explain its explosive properties.
Threewisemen
What's cool is the "explosive" is actually the water sinking under the grease and the instantly boiling and pushing the burning grease up1/2
2/2 as the water gets converted to a gas.
Systym
Yeah, you end up displacing the grease with a bunch of water, probably aerating it too and boom.
bpetersen
Instructions unclear: made Fireworks
Myowngrampa
Is it just cuz it spreads it more or does the fact it has hydrogen make it worse?
Resurrectionist
Water puts out fire by smothering the fuel, preventing oxygen from getting to it. In this case, the fuel (alcohol probably) floats on 1/2
2/2 water, which means it wont be smothered, just spread it around. In grease fires it's the same, plus likely causing a steam explosion
dontsayretarded0itsgay
alcohol will float on oil, but it will not float on water. The structure of the molecules is more important than density
thecptawesome
Picture an oil fire. Water is more dense and with sink below the oil. The oil rises, often over the sides of the container. Now, you have 1/
Tons of oil on fire, but now almost all of it is in contact with oxygen in the air, so you have a huge increase in flame.
Also the fact that the water will boil, the fire will be thrown everywhere and will spread even more!
So what I said more or less? Helps it spread?
Helps it spread and the reaction can be volatile as fuck with grease. Huge flame spouts n shit.
Yup, and does not put it out!
