The women of Afghanistan would like to have a word with you; if they were allowed to do so now. The women of South Korea, the entirety of Europe outside of Spain and the horn of Africa would also like to have a word with you, from the annals of history.
Iâm Spanish, and to give you some context, this is Irene Montero, who, during the last term in Spain, was the head of the Ministry of Equality. His husband was the vice president, and both of them received so many death threats and violence from the right nutters that he actually had to give up his post to protect their children from the brainless mob. She is one of the biggest targets of the right and canât do anything without being second guessed and accused of having f*cked her way to the top
As spanish I Should say and You Must know that the political party she works for (and has been head of) rose 30% of the votes 7-10 years ago, and after 7 years of been in coalition IN the governement of Spain, theyve just dissapeared, they Dont get 3% of votes rn
Not, but in AfganistĂĄn with the us presence the woman could go to school... That was just the political that sank her boat (podemos), they didnt do anything in any other thing.
Joer anda que no he escuxado veces eso. Que se hayan dejado un 30% de los votos totales de España se debe a las cloacas, o lo que han hecho en gobierno ha tenido algo que ver?
They freed Europe and Asia from fascism and a lot of woman gained a lot of rights as a result. The US has been the good guy for a long time, but Trump has been poison for so much recent time that people now are starting to forget.
Pretty positively, if we're being honest. The regimes that the U.S. overthrew in both countries were massively unpopular, especially after they were deposed.
I mean, a LOT of women have been liberated by American bombs. Two bombs in particular liberated the women of Japan. (and if you think that's jingoist rhetoric, talk to historians. Or just listen to the accounts of old Japanese women who were young girls during WW2, and got fucked over by the Tojo regime. Or the "comfort women" of Korea and the Phillipines)
War is hell. Do you think any war in history has ever been clean and devoid of civilian casualties? The reason why the U.S. bombed Hiroshima: it was where they were building the warships (like the Yamoto, and the unfinished Yamoto II). Nagasaki was also a shipyard center. There were lots of civilians there... cuz they were working to build the ships.
But the Japanese aggression had to be stopped. War is awful, an obscenity. It should only be done as a last resort, but sometimes it IS necessary.
I guess the "clean and devoid of civilian casualties " matches up nicely with the girls school on day 1 of operation Epstein Diversion so you're probably right
I donât know who this woman is, but I can confirm that she is not Irene Montero. That said, as a Spaniard, while I may agree with the general idea behind the message, I wouldnât use her as an example of anything. So you want to legislate what YOU find appropriate for women to wear? There is no sheet of paper that fits between people that want to force women to dress up and people that want to l force women to undress.
You're right that the image is AI. Real photo on the left with the proper flags and a recognizable Sennheiser logo instead of AI fantasy BS. But as far as women's clothing choices are concerned, no one should get to dictate what women can or cannot wear. Aside from nazi uniforms and -insignia, prohibiting women from wearing something is just as wrong as forcing them to wear certain clothing.
Irene Montero is defending women rights much more than your limited comment. She's against the criminalizing of wearing the burka, which is very different because it implies that they shouldnt be prosecuted for wearing whatever they want. Forbiding and prosecuting something is the same as making it mandatory, and it's not the way to defending women rights. Shes also defending much more than that, you can follow her on social media, she sometimes posts in english
They are 7 years in the governement of Spain. They have gone from 30% of the votes to less than 3% in that time. Wonder why? I would go further but I cant: they did not solve any problem.
The America of the 1940s was content with letting the world burn until Japan attacked us. I mean we can go back to that. Take away our support from other nations. Would Ukraine still be around if it wasn't for all the military aid provided already? Would Korea just be one Korea under Kimmy?
Do you honestly feel the US is better off for all our intervention? Have all the wars and coups made the world a safer place? The US no longer stands as a counterweight against the aggression of fascist or communist governments looking to seize control.
The US was also not as indifferent to world events prior to December 7th, 1941, as you seem to believe. The US was 'neutral' but always to the benefit of the allied cause.
Yep. Appears to be based on the photo on the left. The Spanish coat of arms is wonky (wrongly colored lion that lacks a crown, yellow line on the banner instead of "VLTRA" etc.), the EU flag lacks stars, background is different, the face belongs to an entirely different person, and the Sennheiser logo on the mic has been replaced by some fantasy brand. This is not just AI-enhanced. Someone was too lazy to add text to an image and fed the photo to AI along with ...
instructions for the "news" text. Look at the different styles of quotation marks. Humans don't type like this. It takes some effort to mix " and ââ (straight quotes and curly quotes) in the same sentence typed in the same app. Usually you have one style set in the preferences. But GenAI has been trained on both, so it mixes things up.
My guess is that someone was too lazy to fire up Photoshop (or GIMP, MS Paint etc.) and add text to the photo, so they told an AI to do the work. Same amount of effort. Typing the entire text in a prompt along with instructions re: where to place it, in which color etc. can't be any faster. Yet it wastes considerably more electricity (about as much as a full cell phone battery charge) and the result is slop.
It's even more upsetting since the image ended up here on imgur, where the text could have simply been added underneath the image. No need to manipulate the photo at all.
To play devil's advocate: the nazis only ever won 33% of the vote in Germany. The first country they took over was Germany so some German women were freed by American bombs in a roundabout way. But that was also over 80 years ago.
Yeah, it's a silly argument from her. US bombs helped free french, belgian, dutch, austrian, norwegian, danish, korean, phillipino women ..... etc during wwii, and again korean women during the korean war and if you count missiles as a kind of bomb, british women during the falklands. Is is obvious that operation Epstein Fury is not for teh benefit of liberataion but thsi makes her seem ignorant.
You missed the point, here, mate. Bombs do not free anyone, they just destroy. You can bomb a country until it's only a slag surface, you haven't freed anyone. When a bomb falls, no one says "finally, I'm now free". Removing an oppressive government CAN free the people living under it, provided there is actual change afterwards (do Iraqi and Afghan women seem freer than before, to you?)
Yeah, if her argument wasn't "Using bombs (violence) as a tool for liberation never works" which was my take, but instead "'Bombs themselves, being inanimate objects have never acted on their own" then it is even sillier.
I grew up with parents constantly doing it with me. They did it to teach me empathy in the beginningâŠchildren under 10 need to learn to put themselves in other peopleâs shoes. But it never stopped, and I do have the urge to do it myself all the time. I still wouldnât do it for THIS discussion, but yeah.
The NSDAP got 43.9% of votes in march 33. Although at that point Hitler was already chancellor, and therefore controlled the police, which worked together with the SA to "protect" the election. Which we can safely assume skewed the numbers in their favor.
Also Germany had several democratic movements and governments before, and I don't just mean the Weimar Republic. So it wasn't seen as a new and foreign ideology that was just forced on them.
What the other commenter said regarding women's rights aside (and they aren't wrong afaik), if you do want to look at the FRG vs the GDR, the former's population was 250% of the latter's as of 1950. Assuming women were balanced across both...
That would still mean 70% of German women, so not _that_ small a subset.
(Unless you want to go into a debate on the merits of women's liberation in the west during the early postwar years, in which case maybe the 30ish % were the ones better off?)
Well, no, those women were freed by American (and British, and Canadian, and, and, and) rifles and tanks and PEOPLE. Bombs have never saved anyone because bombing has never (you can argue nuking Japan but even that's not cut-and-dry, as there's argument to be made that the nukes were not necessary) accomplished strategic objectives on its own. And believe me, they've tried it in nearly every military conflict since they figured out they could drop shit out of planes. Literally never worked.
And yet, history is repeating in exactly one of the countries that helped liberate us. Apparently freedom is not something a one-time-event can create or help keeping. So, to stay in your argument: How about we prevent US women from losing their freedom, first? There's enough work to be done at home...
We have to start with health care is a right. Which means we have to have universal healthcare. Which means we have to stop electing millionaires and billionaires. And we have to reduce the amount of time and money you are allowed to spend or have spent by others on your campaign. 6 months before election. And we need to hold any news media to the fairness act where both sides are given coverage in politics and in news stories and misinformation is sternly prohibited by a fine of $10 million.
I fucking would. It would probably also by taking arms up against parts of the military. Because after all, being killed anyway by a fascist regime does not give you much room for anything else. But maybe, just maybe, some of them have some actual spine and solve the problem themselves. It's not like the Carrot can hide forever. If you guys are really lucky, the fucker soon dies by natural causes anyway.
Nobody said, that that one-time-event would keep things from deteriorating again here, either. Although I'd say that there is still a substantial difference between supporting fascist governments and being one yourself. But we are working on that. One can only hope, that the people here are a bit more ready to move when the time comes, than the people in the US.
It hasn't fallen yet but we're on that path for damn sure. As Hitler himself said - he could've been stopped if he were crushed before his intentions were clear, the AfD have made their intentions clear already and somehow people still treat them like they are anything but neonazis. It's maddening. And yet again the neoliberals (CDU) continue to hand the Nazis power on a silver platter
I think the CDU wants the AFD as their partner and try to make them acceptable for the citizens by being almost identical. Many of the CSU and CDU also dream of a white "Christian" Germany again but none of the other parties will help them with such a nonsense except the AFD. What they also don't realize is that the AFD doesn't share power and will try to get them or anything left of them banned. But we are in Germany at least and I am confident that the police and people would stop them.
I hope so man. I moved to Germany a few years ago to escape the growing fascism that is now fully developed in America. It's painful to watch the same exact story play out here
As an American woman, I have certainly started wondering when the Allied forces will be coming to liberate us from the regime that has taken control of our country.
No one is coming. The world would rather wipe their hands of the US and move on without us than lift a finger in support to the people fighting against the regime.
I am continuing to see Americans use this rhetoric and ask people to come and save them. You realise the amount of nukes your country has right? And an insane dictator at the helm. This is a mess of your own making, you may not have voted for him but half your country DID. If allied feet touched ground in the US to "save the people fighting against the regime" that would literally mean total annihilation. You might not like hearing that this is your mess to sort but it IS.
Oh, I know it is. That is why I have been quick to stomp on anyone asking for someone else to do something.
Not that there is a power in the world or even the world together that could sustain a force the size you would need to police the US even completely unopposed.
I just hope we don't have to. It would be kind of like just returning the favor. But no matter how you spin it, if it comes down to this, it won't be pretty for anyone.

DukePhelan
Oh, I know it is. That is why I have been quick to stomp on anyone asking for someone else to do something.
Not that there is a power in the world or even the world together that could sustain a force the size you would need to police the US even completely unopposed.

I just hope we don't have to. It would be kind of like just returning the favor. But no matter how you spin it, if it comes down to this, it won't be pretty for anyone.

I also hope it doesnât come to that.
