This is reason for the late nights, but not why we struggle to wake in the morning. That is called “sleep inertia” and it is thought to be due to our brain’s poor ability to process adenosine. Adenosine builds up during the day while we’re awake and the brain is ~supposed~ to clear it out while we sleep. When adenosine is still present in the morning it can cause grogginess and difficulty waking up. Caffeine is a very effective adenosine antagonist which is why it works so well for us.

#4 once, in high school, I was at an invitational tournament at a state college. They didn’t make any plans for where competitors would park other than student parking (which was quite a long walk away). My dad literally got out a socket wrench from his trunk and removed the arm gate from the faculty parking lot. Everyone from my school parked there (it was the weekend so the lot was empty) and of course everyone got a ticket. We appealed and they let us all off the hook.

#18 Eating the same breakfast every day isn't normal either from a species perspective. It's a very recent development made possible by having the same foods available all year round. Especially processed foods in colorful packaging, with the logo of a company who wants you to eat their sugary garbage every day for the rest of your life. Why not mix it up a little and listen to your appetite? Fresh fruit today, scrambled eggs with cheese tomorrow. Or Belgian waffles, or a leftover drumstick etc.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There are literally no rules. You can have ice cream for breakfast if you feel like it, or a whole block of cheese, or a handful of trail mix if you're in a hurry. It's not "the most important meal of the day". That's just a silly advertising slogan. And if it were the most important meal, you definitely shouldn't eat the same shit every day. It's wild how we've allowed some cereal companies to shape and distort cultures the world over

Not anymore, it's not. 2016 case determined that it had already been public domain and WB illegally collected royalties. They had to pay some millions and now it's officially for sure public domain.

#9 It goes even further with hallucinations. Think of factory floors. AI controlled machinery, bipedal robots or classic contruction robots rely on sensors to tell where they are, at what position and angle their limbs are and so on.

Current AI will inevitably ignore the input of those sensors and hallucinate their own values. Which will inevitably cause damage. Not on the first or second instance maybe, but it will happen and one of these instances will be catastrophic. So AI will not stay.

3 weeks ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 4

This is the shit that will lead to the Faro Plague.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Actually no. Current AI is not dangerous for getting better at anything then expected, but critically failing in instances we were able to accomplish with much less complicated tech already.

Current AI gives shitty output, fails at simple tasks at least 5% of the time, all the time. That is abysmal performance, especially in automation.

3 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

LLMs are not AI, even though everyone calls them that now. You wouldn't use an LLM to control a robot. You might equip the robot with one if you wanted it to be able to talk, but it wouldn't be used for motor control.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As i said to the other person. It is not about what the tokens represent, it is the underlying technology, the neural networks on which all the current models are based on that gives you the 5% hallucination rate that you CANNOT get rid of.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Either you responded to the wrong person or I'm just slow on the uptake today, because I cannot for the life of me figure out how your response is relevant to what I said.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No they will not. The AI used for controlling robotics is typically numerical, not text based. Quite different ball-game.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They are still based in neural networks. Doesn't matter if the tokens are texts or numericals, the technology below that delivers the 5% guaranteed fuck-up rate.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes, and no. Neural networks by design cannot extrapolate beyond training data. You can teach them to approximate, but that's not the same. Hallucination is more complex, but similar.

The brain example below is a case of training data as far as I can tell.

I'd love to have a source on this to share with others, if you've got one.

https://www.reuters.com/investigations/ai-enters-operating-room-reports-arise-botched-surgeries-misidentified-body-2026-02-09/

Quote : " Most allegedly involved errors in which the TruDi Navigation System misinformed surgeons about the location of their instruments while they were using them inside patients’ heads during operations. "

This information is provided to the AI system by dumb sensers that are pretty much used all over all kinds of industries. So the AI ignored their output.

Thank you! And hoooooly is that article nightmare fuel!

3 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Nevermind. AI is serious business, but people are being deceived WHY it actually is serious business.

Knowing how bad it is, now you can also imagine how bad the financial markets will be doing once this insight spreads.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

To my understanding, machine learning is the serious business. It's applications in research, etc? Not the chatbot, genAI, AI agents stuff. Am I right on that?

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wow.
My prejudice confirmed again.
If you're below average, AI will improve your work & output. But if you're below average, you should not be working with anything critical.
Like brain surgery.

3 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You can pretty much take that as a rule. In case you have not the slightest clue about something. AI can be helpful to get started in learning about that thing. Once you are only somewhat familiar with a topic, you catch the AI telling you bullshit, what feels like, 20% of the time.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Unfortunately, marketing and salespeople, who are the ones trying to convince us that everything should be AI, have 20% bullshit baked in as a feature, not as a problem.
