Exactly. Unless it is an orphaned kitten, it should not be separated from its mother so early. Unscrupulous breeders want to sell the little ones as quickly as possible to make room for new ones. And some owners want to get their kitten as soon as possible because they are just sooo small and sooo cute.

I woke up one hot August day and through a window saw a kitten with its eyes closed on my back porch, meowing. Hours later it was still there, meowing, no mom to be seen. We took her in and fed her by hand. Grown up she is the smallest cat I've ever seen, she weighs less than 4lbs.
