When I was a kid, we used to regularly have drills where we'd hear the air raid siren that indicated incoming nuclear missiles, and we'd hide under our desks. Even as children we all knew that was NOT gonna help against a hydrogen bomb, and we also knew in Detroit, we'd be a priority target. Lotta folks my age and older were permafucked by this, and can only see "socialism" as a faceless police state that wants us dead. The Soviet Union's been gone for 35 years, but it still has enemies here.
