I see where all the oligarchs are going to end up in ...
I'd watch that.
IAMSRC
Absolutely stunning!
PolitiCat
They are currently the only ones fighting the billionaires. Be an orca. Support the overthrowing of the billionaires!
rolliefingers
They are just playing.
InHarmsWay
We are lucky they don't see us as a food source and more of a curiosity.
AlysObv
orca aka killer whales...
Sorrontis
they also play with their food. pretty rud

So do cats.

Feralkyn
The ocean has a lot of apex predators... the term doesn't just mean 1. But yeah they're pretty fucking scary until adult Humpbacks holding grudges roll up and fuck up their day.
Hissyfitter
Reminds me of Schätzing's "The Swarm".
retrogradewire
Damn, nature! You scary!
impayshunz
...apex DICKS! ...of the sea.
billymaditsdone
Lol we know. But people still upload videos of seals being yeeted into space.
beeeeeeerkaaaaa
It makes me sad they eat seals, dolphins and penguins.
Feralkyn
Fwiw they don't all. There's a few subspecies (or populations depending on who's doing the defining) and some ONLY eat fish. There's salmon-eating orca groups, and then the ones (Transient iirc) that eat marine mammals.
DesperateDunn365
Why? It's nature. They have to eat and it helps control populations.
beeeeeeerkaaaaa
Because they're cute.
Wasindear
the bow wave to knock seals off ice floats move is taught from adults to calves, they get them to watch to make sure they learn the ways
iamthemurray
They really go after big whales? I'd expect whale pups but dayum. T boned that big boy
Feralkyn
Yeah, the mammal-eating populations/subspecies (debated) will pack-hunt like that. Larger, slower whales are vulnerable but Humpbacks are known to actively fight back, and even engage orcas to defend other marine mammals despite no immediate benefit to them--probably seeing them as general threats and holding a great deal of hatred/grudge against them for attacking calves
madmax17
Somewhat agressive.
Bundalicious79
Nothing scares me more than killer whales, and I’ve been charged by grizzly bears. I was sitting in a boat one sunny day, reading a book on the deck and I saw something weird in my peripheral, it was a killer whale, just rose straight up to take a peak at me then sunk silently back into the ocean, I freaked out and went to the edge of the boat. A whole bunch of them were swimming around the boat, just looking at me. Those fucking eyes. They seen some shit man. I have no idea what they were doing
ExTechOp
The way there are a few recorded cases of wild orcas "threatening" humans, but there have been no known fatalities just means the orcas are smarter and much better at hiding the evidence than sharks.

pommelguy
I saw this documentary once where they were trying to eat baby humpbacks. Pretty vicious stuff.
Feralkyn
It's probably why humpbacks hold grudges. They will actively come to the rescue of other marine mammals under attack by orcas, and fight the orcas despite no immediate personal benefit.
pommelguy
Plus I seem to remember something about them tossing seals around as they killed them to the point where it was just sadistic.
wickerandcork
I hate this editing. Fuxakes

They missed the meta yacht though, unfortunately

ViolentlyJaded
I will supply the orcas with ALL the salmon hats if they accomplish this.
imnotinthewitnessprotectionprogram
No krill???
DeviousWay
Sadly, the major eaters of salmon eaters are the Salish Sea Southern Resident Orcas. They specialized. And they are slowly dying out.
dronir
The whole orcas vs yachts thing is a bit out of proportion. No billionaire yachts have been attacked by orcas. Those are too big. The boats attacked are smaller, the kinds owned by upper middle class people. Wealthy people, sure; millionaires maybe, but nowhere near billionaires, which is a whole different class.
manystripes
So what I'm hearing is we need to engineer a new breed of mega orcas
Marsupialmessiah
Or get an rpg from a shady dealer
ThisIsAllYouCouldComeUpWith
Orca is asshoe. Except the yacht hunting, that's peachy
dronir
Orcas are very smart, they have family clans and they care for their relatives in ways we see in a few species like elephants.
HawkmanXLII
Why asshoe? They're just doing what predators do, using every tool they have to hunt and propagate for survival.
DancingSwine
Always sad when they drown or knock out baby whales while the mother is trying to protect them. Nature is cruel i know its still sad :(
gonzar09
They knock over sharks in order to put them into their catatonic state just to eat their livers. They form wave units to knock seals off of ice.
numlocks
Kinda funny
FisheswithDynamite
Great whites will straight up leave the pacific coast of the US if they detect orcas. And if I remember correctly, not just leave, but swim across the ocean to Asia, traveling at depths orcas won't go.
DarthWaiterSE
The fact that they've been swimming in formation like the Blue Angels since before human beings even existed should terrify anyone with half a brain.
(Seriously though, orcas are fucking badass super-predators.)
azazyel
And they teach their young how to do it.
PixelGibbon
They learned the shark thing from observing human marine biologists, which is impressive and terrifying.
d2zh5jtsvb42
Is anyone here a marine biologist?!
mjperk
Source? I've read about the liver thing but have never seen mention of learning it from humans.
madmax17
That's crazy.
fformulaa
Marine bilogists eat shark livers? Hopefully with a little chianti!

And some fava beans.

RetrogradeLlama
It’s a creature that’s nearly as intelligent as a human with a huge physical presence and ability that needs to eat.
What would you think would happen?
AtmaDarkwolf
It is suggested that they can actually be higher intelligent than us.
RetrogradeLlama
Certainly more intelligent than many!
Aranon1183
"...Can actually be higher intelligent than us." With that wording, definitely higher level of intelligence than you!
AtmaDarkwolf
Ah yes, cuz random mistypes is a clear sign of intelligence :P At least we found someone butthurt that the suggestion something else was smarter than them.

Jordan7831
Unmmm how long have you been on the internet? Have you seen the stupid shit ppl do
GrandFubar
Orcas are mammals. not fish. Literally giant fucking dolphins.
ThisNameIsMaybeTaken
Facts. Especially since orcas live in the ocean, below sea level, while Trump lives on land, above sea level.
Checkmate, atheists.
Einstein9073
You, personally, are less intelligent than the Orca in the video.
Zamerine
Tell me, oh genius human, what scale did you use to measure the intelligence of this 'glorified fish' ?
TheRoyalDong
Could ask you the same. You're just spouting nonsense like me.
Zamerine
You don't make sense. What nonsense was in my question ?
Wait, you mean that 'genius' adjective ? I mean ... That's quite the self burn there my dude.
TheRoyalDong
That's obviously not what I mean. Maybe there are some people dumber than Orcas after all. You've opened my eyes.
Trollero
Don't forget about the moose
Feralkyn
Stupid internet myth
Bundalicious79
Not a myth man, moose often swim to better foraging grounds and transients make a regular meal out of them. A fisherman in Alaska saw one try to snatch a bear off the land, he quit fishing fire he saw that.
Feralkyn
Moose do swim, there is however absolutely no evidence that orca feed on them regularly. They've been found in orca stomachs once or twice ages back, so they HAVE been eaten or scavenged. The *myth* is recent, and a Tumblr cartoon started it by showing orca preying on *browsing* moose, and the myth is now that orca are "regular predators" or even "the main predator" of moose, which is fucking ridiculous. It may be a rare occurrence, and that's it.
Trollero
Feralkyn
Moose browse freshwater. This comic always pissed me off purely b/c of how it then got spread around and became "common knowledge" on the internet despite being completely wrong. Moose has been found in orcas' stomachs once or twice, but more likely was scavenged, possibly after drowning crossing between islands, as they do. Orcas most certainly are not "regular predators" of moose as is so often claimed, because they don't jump over land into fuckin lakes.
