When I was a young fella, we worked bussing tables or dishwashing at the restaurants our moms worked in. This was daycare for the middle class in the 1960’s.
I remember the manager coming in and catching us weighing weed on the scales after prep was done. We had a bit over a pound we were stemming, de-seeding, and packaging up into quarters. He was like "SinaLC, how much does that bag right there weigh?" and I got it within 2 grams. He just smiled and left us alone.
Everyone needs a shit job when they're young at some point, if only to learn how ugly it is and maybe develop some empathy for those forced by circumstance to work retail.
I lasted 3 days at the gas station, 5 months in retail, and that taught me with 100% certainty that getting the education and credentials and skills to get a better job was mandatory.
That, and that unless you're a monster, you must cut those guys some slack. Be kind to the folks in those jobs.
I’ll do you one better: in order to qualify to get a drivers license in the US, it should be required to work 18 months straight in either retail, food service, or some other service industry. As long as it’s public facing. That way EVERYONE gets to see what it’s like working those shit jobs, AND BONUS: EVERYONE GETS TO WORK A HOLIDAY SEASON
