I love knots! I have watched people make easy and very useful knots countless times and if needed, i would probably die before i remembered the right knot to use. And how to tie it, which is the bigger problem.
All knot videos might as well be magic to me. You do a swoop and a swirl and there's suddenly a knot? And then you pull on one side and it's tight, then the other side releases the whole thing? Incomprehensible. Black magic.
I can stare at people doing knots all day...study all the very detailed diagrams out there....but I will never in my life remember a single one of them
Practice. It won't last until you have it in your fingers. Grab some cord and make the knot. This is when neurons fire the way we want it. Took me dozens of attempts to learn a different shoe lace technique but it's stuck now
I was talking about before I have my sails up, not tacking. I have been considering changing at least my sheets to dyneema. My supplier of technora rope (I use it in fire props) carries dynema too.

Seriously even on the preview that is a thing of beauty

You need the little branch in the loop. Stay safe my dudes

Over, under, in and out... twist, turn, rotate 90 degrees, ring fire brigade: "Yeah, I've gotten myself stuck again."

This is a good way to tie your canoe if you want to come back and find it out floating in the middle of the lake.

If there is one thing I totally suck at, it is at tying specialty knots.
BurnieCinders
You gotta practice them. Once I needed them for work I got good fast.

I’ll have to remember this (he said as he realized he forgot the twelve other knots he wanted to remember).
pixelsnader
Well as they say, the expert has forgotten more than the novice ever knew. So you're better off than someone that has learned like half a dozen knots.
JackDawesLovesmybigwhat
Get a bit of rope and tie it about 100 times. It's harder to forget that way.

Just tried it. It's so fucking simple with a string in the hand compared to the mind gymnastics I had to do to unravel the video instruction
isetprettygirlsonfire
I use this to secure my sail with jib sheets so I can unfurl and hoist it from the cockpit
MoreOfABrewerReally
Yeah, I man the jib by thacking the sheet on the port-side scabbard. Curls loosely and helps for a smoother release.
NairouTryyshokk
We gotta ask then, just how is the cut of your jib?

Yar, the wind, she be blowin'.
ScienceIsNotALiberalConspiracy
I just use a dyneema rope to tie off the sail so it's easier to move it from left to right when the wind changes :^)

(I was making sailor joke by saying rope, left, and right)

The dyneema was advanced, lol. But you forgot port and starboard
