YouTube TV is pretty decent in place of cable if you require it. Lets you record all your shows and you can start live shows from the beginning if they are on your list and fast fwd commercial. Also let's you watch 4 football games or 4 news channels at the same time which is pretty cool. But, yeah, as for the rest, Ublock.
I paid for Premium Lite just to be rid of ads. Now they're closing that, and the alternative is only full Premium with over double the price. Fuck them, I'm outta YouTube now.
i saw a post on reddit asking if it was worth it and fuckin swaths of people were like 'omg yes i love it' i felt like i was in the god damn twilight zone, YALL ARE PAYING FOR THAT?
I signed on for a 90 day trial, it's decent if you listen to a lot of primarily audio content. Don't think it's worth the price of the subscription though.
I know I'm weird, but most of the time, the ads just don't bother me that much. I just wish they wouldn't insert them in between syllables of a single word. It would be easy for an AI to scan for quiet moments to drop an ad into.
Years back, Google got to the top of the advertising heap by making ads for websites that were not intrusive, but did the job. No big flashing bullshit, autoplays, or shoving tons of it in your face, making it hard to not click on...
The adverts vs ad-blockers war has been waging for a long time. Utimately the advert model *will* fail. But whether we like the next internet better is debatable.
I'm sure they'll try. But it's always been an arms race between ads and adblockers. Same thing happens on Twitch. Every couple of months they find a way to disable adblockers...and then a week later they work again.
For YouTube, the people getting screwed over with adblock are creators. YouTube corporate will be just fine. Creators are the ones that really need it.

I've never had any of that - perhaps I'm too boring.

On Android: download FDroid, then Newpipe. I haven't seen a YouTube ad in years.

Remember when we had spicy flu and selfish assholes didn't give a shit about anybody but themselves? Yeh.

I don't use YouTube because of the ads. I'm trying my hardest to get away from ads. I'm so fucking tired of it

The more annoying and intrusive ads become, the more people will try to circumvent them.

Thank you, Princess Leia.

Yes. Sorry, advertisers. You broke the social contract
