This is a 4' tall model of a Victorian house, all to scale and all hand built by my husband's late grandfather. It's been in my husband's parent's storage unit for over a decade and is very very dusty. It comes with about a dozen boxes of furnishings! The table it's on is it's base and it stores all the electrical wiring - apparently all the lights, the grandfather clock, etc. should all work once plugged in.
The in-laws drove this big ol guy and his brother, The Brownstone, from Colorado to California so they could deliver them to us.
This is the Victorian's brother, The Brownstone. He is equally as large and detailed and dusty.
My husband played with these for hours and hours as a child, and his grandfather designed the rooms to have nods to my husband's childhood memories.
WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH THESE
I tried uploading videos but imgur says the files are too fat so I'll try again with a smaller video later
My older brother says I should use them for a DnD campaign and now I'm definitely thinking about using them for a murder mystery campaign

Well. After a good cleaning they’re worth a bunch of money too.
In an Auction maybe $3500/5000 per model.

I love love love tiny things and I love love love that other Imgurians love this too!! Can we come over and play?

Those look amazing, @OP. I don't actually collect dollhouses myself, but I have always been in awe of good miniaturecraft. There's a museum in a nearby city with an astonishingly large, detailed dollhouse exhibit. I could stare at the thing for hours and still not see everything. And if those have such close personal connection with your husband, they are treasures indeed.
thatprickleypear
Yeah the in-laws wanted to loan them to the Miniatures Museum in Tucson, but the museum wanted them as permanent donations, not loans. At the time, this wasn't acceptable since my husband hadn't received it yet, and these are genuinely his inheritance

You can't post a video longer than 1 minute. So, might just cut them and post one after another in correct order. Sometimes they mix.

Awesome thank you!!

This is perfect for a Call of Cthulhu campaign! Or a horror movie switching between the mini house and the real house 😱🫣

Everyone is gushing about this amazing dollhouse but I'm looking at the cat-shaped hole in the corner.

Look at the window, above the house.

That would be Tater's bathroom entrance
DarkfireDragon
Neat! I keep my cats' litter boxes in large plastic containers. Keeps the smell down and hides the gross but takes up more room than I'd like.
shorey66
Yeah we're going to need more on Tater. And his/her bathroom

I would worry that the cats would damage it. Those are amazing heirlooms. I don’t have any idea where to put them either.

Lol she is scared of them

Until she's not and then sleeps in one of the little bedrooms and then you share that pic with us!
LANAAAAAAAAAA
We'll they're clearly haunted. Makes for an even more enticing DnD setting.
Mmbear
Most definitely has doll sized victorian ghosts. Which somehow feels more terrifying than full sized ghosts.

How do I tell my phone to stop autocorrecting well to we'll?

Your phone's haunted. You need a young priest and an old priest.

Well I think you should have a serious conversation with the husband on what to do with them at least. They sound important to him.
thatprickleypear
He and I are both in "we love and appreciate these but no idea where we should put them" mode

How about donating to a museum? The Time Machine Museum of Miniatures in Tucson, AZ is wonderful!
vegivamp
Indefinite loan, not gift. You never know what happens to the museum.
thatprickleypear
Unfortunately they originally wanted them as a gift and not a loan! In-laws wanted to loan it to the Miniatures Museum (I'm from Tucson and they actually live in Tucson half the year!) but couldn't sell them at the time because hubby hadn't yet received them as his inheritance!
Honestly may be a good idea to look into now that they're officially his
AgnesGooch
I guess your other option would be to sell them privately, but that could take a while before you find the right buyer. Maybe an antiques auction house- even Christie’s or Sotheby’s might be interested.
imitatedself
In all seriousness, I might check with historical societies/local museums maybe?
arumunus
Holy shit I'm so jealous. Those are gorgeous!
Also if dollhouses get revitalized due to DnD that'd be sick af. Setting up a tabletop landscape isnt too far a cry from a dollhouse I guess..
mwoodman
As a DM: maps/tableaus with interior walls over 1” tall are kind of a pain because they tend to obscure line-of-sight when you are sitting. Can’t see the minis :(

what do you NOT do with those?! what a glorious gift!

Lit a candle inside. For real, do NOT do it.

IF you have room for them. I live in a small house and ANYTHING that comes in the doors that doesn’t have a place to go is just a nuisance.
thatprickleypear
I CAN FIT ONE IN THE LIVING ROOM BUT WHERE THE HELL DO I PUT THE OTHER
MrSnuffleupagus172
Perhaps there’s a museum or cultural center that might accept one as part of a display (with an acknowledgment to your grandfather (“donated in memory of…..”)

Imagining … and this makes me smile like a mad thing. Thank you for the mental picture.
Teeny tiny salami. 😂
DukeDarkwood
If it is completely infeasible to have both on display, I wonder if you could maybe alternate them at six month intervals? Store one someplace it'll be safe, keep the other out for half a year... then switch them for the other half. It would certainly keep things interesting - although the drawback is that the task of switching would be work-intensive, I'm guessing.
SupermassiveZebra
Put a heckton of tiny lights on it and swap them out around christmas
