I made a thing.

Finished ring first. Look at that sexy glow.

Step 1. Buy a ring you like - the ring has to be a few sizes too big. The one I used is sterling silver.

Hot glued the ring to a surface, making sure to get a good seal.

Mixing the casting resin. These come in 2 parts just like epoxy glue, but it's designed to dry perfectly clear and shiny. Then I mixed in copious amounts of glow powder.

Glow testing the resin

After pouring the resin into the ring, I took a flame to the top of the resin in short bursts. This is to pop any small air bubbles within the resin.

Glow test 2. I had to start over with a new base because I had a leak in the hot glue.

Now the hardest part. Letting the resin set. The resin I got required a 24 setting time.

Ring separated from the base and glow test again. I love that colour.

Boring out the middle of the resin well.

I did some damage to the ring, but I'll fix that later.

Getting the edge even was really difficult. A gentle touch is important.

Glow test in regular light before polishing.

Then using 600 and 1500 grit sandpaper I beveled the edge of the resin to get a nice round comfort fit shape. This is important because it allows the ring to charge up with light and for the emitted light to be seen.

Pretty even. Now to for a final polish inside and out.

Looks really good in the dark. Subtle unless you deliberately charge it in bright light or uv.

I was inspired by carbon 6 rings, but I wanted to make one of my own since they didn't seem to have exactly what I wanted. It turned out really well considering I know nothing about jewellery!
