My favorite winter sport used to be Figure Skating with all its amazing jumps and spins. But it was just too stressful knowing that at any instant the skater might fall. So, my doctor recommended I switch over to a sport that was less intense, like Curling.

This sport is so great. "Go out there and dance like a camp swan while we grade you solely on your ability to do a sick fkn spin"

As a canadian the behavior of the curlers are fucking disapointing. These gifs make it so much better - thank you @OP I needed the humour to sooth the pain.

I'm here for it. I. Am. Canadian. -- In all fairness, I feel badly for those skaters, but I'm loving the memes.
KMSigma
I'm still amazed that anyone (skill level notwithstanding) would actively choose to put knives on their feet, then jump, then spin. I have a nearly constant fear of castration just carrying scissors down the stairs. One slip and I'm singing soprano.
Of course, this feels status quo for most of the winter Olympic sports.

I heard it was due to soft ice - sharing the ice rink with all the different events and such.
onepinksheep
I was thinking that the ice looked suspicious.
nation543
Another reason to say fuck ice.
wouldClimbForCash
They share with short track speed skaters who want *harder* ice. That said, the speed skaters may have had some presumed soft ice issues too.

As a Canadian, that slight finger touch after release makes all the difference for the next 140 feet.
zHurk777
I know nothing about curling, but that finger touch looks like cheating, to me. Who knew Canadians would cheat? Don't tell trump, he'll invade.
doctorId
And even if it didn't matter all that much, it was clearly an intentional attempt to cheat. I think whether or not cheating works is immaterial to the enforcement of rules because if you let it slide once, it'll just empower the person to keep doing it.
Fargus57
"We're going to ignore a rule because we don't feel it has a real impact on results" is not a valid argument.
mikeatike
I think they are not being sarcastic. The earlier you make a correction such as sweeping, the bigger of an effect it has. Its basic physics.

As a human being, vehemently denying the slight finger touch - even if it wasn’t significant to the outcome - and then topping that denial with throwing a cursing tantrum, makes all the difference between being perceived as a decent fellow and a downright dick.
Fadetoblack021
I didn't say anything about any of that, but alright eh
mikeatike
This guarantees he has been cheating for years. Up until very recently almost no curling matches have been recorded or televised except at world championship and olympic levels. And the ones that did are overhead cams that are easy to block.
It just didnt occur to him that a camera waa watching that close from a side angle. Its why the reaction of quadrupling down was so sudden.
BobLoblawsLawBlogss
Yeah he really did handle it very poorly. I was ashamed hearing his response
MadamPuddifoot
Yeah don't you guys have to like lock him out of the country now? His display was acutely un-Canadian. Honestly de was acting like the American president.
