This is amazing. I know a lot of these people do this for free for the right to film and advertise/youtube views, but this is tremendous for communities.
I work with stuff like this but never had the pleasure of working on a place this wild. Removing overgrown grass from pathways is just as satisfying as it looks.
We have a separate compost facility in our medium sized city, reasonable rates for drop off, they also do curbside pickup if you have paper bags and city sold lawn waste stickers on the bags, the facility also sells mulch and compost to finance their operation. Very efficient and useful.
Saw a guy doing this threatened with arrest for helping an 80 year old with her overgrown garden. Apparently they local gov was close to taking her home because she couldn't take care if it.
ALSO the local gov was contracted to do the landscaping and they wanted to be paid to do it, only she couldn't afford to pay them, so they didn't do it.. so someone did it for free and they threatened to arrest him if he didn't stop
Yeah and all the comments on that video clarified that it was two videos spliced together and dubbed over and the cops would not arrest someone for fulfilling the city's order to clean.
County and state governments just taking peoples property out from under them when they can't take care of the property to a high enough standard is horrible. On an TOTALLY unrelated note I wonder why the USA government wants to cut welfare and medicare?
I think I've seen that vid. I have a couple of these guys on YT pop up in my feed sometimes. Yeah, it is nuts how often cops will bother them or neighbors will get upset when they are just doing yardwork.
one guy on YT did an overgrown yard, and the smell coming from inside caused him to call the cops to come find the body of the person who was no longer able to take care of the yard
I've seen it too, the original and I think Ugo touched on it too. They tried to get him for trespassing which doesn't make sense because he made contact with the landowner and she gave him permission. ALSO the city was about to take the land because of that very issue.
So this happens to nursing homes as well. If they have enough failures they are awarded to the state, well the state doesn't really have the resources to run them so they award them to other companies. Free nursing home!
Wow. My neighbor is 87. We all help her. My kid likes to bake, so I bring her cake. We take turns shovelling snow for her in the winter. One has the keys to her house and looks out for it when she isn't home. One visits her ever so often to make sure she is ok. I have her kids phone numbers. And this is not extraordinary. Neighborhoods like this are quite common. NOT helping gets noticed. Helping is the norm.

I reply enjoy this kind of work. I've cleared land and it was wonderful. Wish I could do it for a living

Not sure of the purpose of the first area of concrete he uncovered. It looked odd.
Cranbananarama
Curious about it as well. Some form of drainage, maybe?
ChrisCorona
More curious of how anyone would know that odd shaped paver section was under there?
MrRobSteel
At a guess it's for letting water run off the road and soak into the ground. Like a drain, without the drain.
SonnyVabitch
Maybe they originally added that bit to put the bins out on.

This explains how cities get buried over the centuries. Eventually, mounds, called tells, result.

Where does all the foliage go when they are done? Is there a massive compost pile at the city dump?

Totallyscrewedinaustin
Probably. Most towns/cities have one. Some have fees, a lot are free to drop off yard waste, as long as it's not full of trash/weeds
apathyboy
proper compost heaps get hot enough to cook weed seeds and deactivate them.
Totallyscrewedinaustin
Maybe, but doesn't do shit for plastic trash! They won't take it if it's full of crap, is all I'm saying!
moofunk
The one we have mixes compost with tree branches and is mixed several times a day. It never can get compact enough on site to heat up.

Furyustyles
They weren't taking house. The city was saying she had to pay them $300 for them to mow it.
