1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A special spring steel nut (also called a plate nut or speed nut) shaped somewhat like a “G” or “U.” It clips over the edge of a sheet metal plate to provide a threaded attachment for a screw where the metal plate is otherwise too thin to thread. have I heard...

I rarely enjoy nuts.

I am a gnarly nut.

Thanks for the two random pictures that have a bunch of doubles and don't even including important ones that people actually use like a lock nut or a T-nut. Or the bottom of a flange nut which is the important part. This post is nuts.

How does a cross barrel nut work? Never seen one in action before

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

IKEA often use barrel nuts. So the idea is to hold the bolt in place with a screwdriver and then fasten two wood pieces together with a long bolt and it tightens up.

Ooooh its screwed in and kept stationary well that makes much more sense than what i was imagining :D

Most guys can't even locate a G-Nut.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Is that why they get them removed?

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Not if what they're working with is an acorn nut.

Then some german: "Eine verrückte Flügelmutter"
"Verrückt" means crazy, but the root word rücken means to move something. A "verrückte Mutter" is a nut that is misaligned or crooked.

4 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

«Mutter mit Flügeln – festgezogen oder durchgedreht?»

(Mother/nut with wings - well tightened or totally crazy?)

4 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ger. Mutter = Eng. Mother = Norw. Mutter (Mother) = Norw. Mutter (Nut)
to make it more confusing.

Totally missed wing nuts. I recently went on an odyssey trying to find a wing nut. My go to hardware store closed @ 2 years ago. The other h/w store in town had 3 wing nut last December. I needed 4, but I bought the 3 they had. Went back a month later - no wing nuts. Miffed, but they're not critical, yet. Went back in May and they still had not been restocked. So I went to the h/w store in the next town. It was a Saturday and they close at 2pm. It was 2:30 when I got there.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Turns out all the hardware stores were closed, so you had to go to Imgur instead. Plenty of wingnuts here, but none of them fit an M6 bolt!

4 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Me searching for a wingnut on a Saturday is a great way to realize that the only loose nut around... is me.

4 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

... OK, I'll try Home Depot. They don't even have wing nuts. Head to Lowe's, but they don't have the size I'm looking for. So, on Monday, after work, I stop into the h/w store in that town, which my manager says sucks, and finally find my elusive 5/16 wing nut.

The cage nut is an old enemy of mine

Know someone with a 3D printer? Try one of these!
https://makerworld.com/en/models/141370-19-rack-cage-nut-install-and-removal-tool#profileId-154057

I printed one, then had like 5 people ask for one. They work way better than you would think.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I tried to use some when building a van. Never worked, always loose. But Insert Nuts were fantastic, even in square holes.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Server racks?

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or the nuts into which door latch bolts on a Dodge Grand Caravan thread, and if the nut(s) pop out of the cage, you need to cut into the lower b-pillar to retrieve it (good fucking luck!) or insert new ones via a long wire or rod, and a hell of a lot of patience and luck.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Server racks. Especially when it's used or from who knows where. Sure sometimes they go in properly easy. But when they don't and it's already mounted somewhere awkward...
