The road is a public service provided by a government that regulates their economic systems to fix their short comings. Socialism and Capitalism have short comings, areas they fail, or where the people can be exploited. public services and programs funded by a functional government are supposed to correct/prevent them (it could be argued we haven't had that in the US for awhile)

It's also the insurance company suing the fire department for damages because they broke the door down trying to get in because it was locked and they were trying to put out the fire. And God forbid you turn your water on too soon, and cause some water damage in a room that isn't actively on fire, because they will sue you for that too.

When I was a firefighter back in '01, they gave us classes on how to break into people's homes while doing minimal damage, because several FD's got charged for broken windows and doors for kicking in locked doors to get to emergencies. I acknowledge that may have changed in the last 20 years, but with the current regime in place...I highly doubt it. I will gladly defer to anyone who has a more current knowledge on it, though.

Everyone, can we stop calling that socialism? It isn't. It's a public program. Socialism means a society(group) of people (normally the government) owns/controls the capitol. Capitalism is where private entities own the capital. Social or Public programs are used where capitalism fails (example: fire departments have a terrible/inhumane business model under capitalism without public programs)
When you talk about Socialism > Capitalism you're letting the argument turn to a false binary.

Gov owned capital (aka means of production) is from communism/Marxist-Leninist socialism
In capitalism the focus is on the capital (not the people), so it often sees social programs as a "production cost" it'd rather minimize
In socialism the same programs let people benefit from the wealth They created, as they should
Comparing capitalism vs socialism is apples vs oranges, you can have both if the former plays nice
