games were better when it was just on the disk

This happened to me already with ps4. I bought two movies on PlayStation video, moved to a new apartment, and they’re gone. Had to buy them all over again.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Looks at Fallout 4 on Switch 2.
Yeah that isn’t the only weakness. No Mouse Controls and No Gyro aiming.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Most game disks today are just a code to tell the council to download the game. I agree with the other user go to USB's as they can be big enough to hold the whole game.

Fuck GTA6, by the way

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I just want a picture of a got dang hotdog

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

People need to stop preordering.

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

sure i get that for most games...but this is going to likely be the biggest selling IP of all time for all media ever. that being said i haven't pre-ordered it myself. also fuck these guys cause you know they are going to release online as a stand alone and may you buy it as well, and then they will re-release it on ps6 and make you buy it full price again on there.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

So? it's not going anywhere. They'll still sell it 6 months, a year, TEN years on. Why would you need it NOW?

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

What’s the line? If it can’t be owned, piracy isn’t a crime?

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Im going to add in... the Box today is just god avfull Like the cover art for so many games is maybe not bad or boring but its the same piece of art plastered everywhere sometime even terrible cropped. and then we got the manual and feelies or what it was called. we whent from a lore book included whit most game, the manual that was thick, maybe a nice map to hang on the wall or something. today its a A5 sheet of paper that just says read manual (what manual) and the CD key.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thats it... and I remmber when I bought a copy/version of HL2 back in 2010 or so and I thought the manual A5 sheet of HL orange paper was disapointed but at least it was a A5 sheet of paper whit the controls so a atempt. today its a standard A5 white sheet of paper whit barrly a word beyound a trunked EULA.

Yeah, if I'm going into a physical store to buy something, I want a physical product. Otherwise what the fuck was the point of going to the store? I can get digital shit online all day long without leaving my house.

1 month ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

It's neat to see the current generation of digital-download natives realize why so many of the old guard had a problem with digital-download only purchases.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

not buying gta6 unless they release a disc version. they can go fuck themselves.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have always bought games on physical disk if I have the choice. When I am done I trade it in and get a discount on the new game. Plus if I buy something I want something tangible in return.

PHYSICAL MEDIA WOO!

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Psh, you think you actually own the products you buy? This is late stage capitalism my friend - you own nothing. You will continue to pay monthly fees to rent literally everything forever. Think that electric toothbrush is yours? Think again. You will pay big daddy Bezos 15 bucks a month for the privilege of having product advertisements vibrated into your skull.

Don't forget games that give you a "Physical Token/Disc" that has nothing on it, save for a download authorization.
Once these take those servers offline, the cartridge/token/disc is little more than a paperweight or drink coaster.
This includes "Game Key Cards" from Nintendo and "Intenet Required" games for Playstation and Xbox.
Doom Eternal for the PS5 had 8MB on the disc, which was just a server authorization to download the game.
Look for these warnings!

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know better, but it would be wonderful if nobody bought it at launch and we all waited at least a year.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I like he can't buy an Egg McMuffin at McDonald's because it is past breakfast serving hours.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What is this? It's what you ordered. No this is some shit. I want my sandwich to look like it does on the menu.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Haven't most physical discs basically been download codes (with the first few gig already downloaded) for a while?
Like, this is bad and worrisome on many levels, and my trust isn't high, but we have been in this position for a while, no?
I remember installing games that were on 10 floppies, so I have no issue with GTAIV being on multiple discs to install, any claims they are "saving us" from that is BS

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

show of hands, who trusts consoles to honor digital game codes after any amount of time passes...? If its going to be digital only then I'll wait till its on steam. I still can play counterstrike that I got when the platform launched over 20 years ago. As much as it annoys me that gabe can't count past 2 i'll trust him to not screw his customers over. Heck PS just took a whole bunch of media away that people paid for like yesterday

1 month ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

Fuck no, Sony just announced they are revoking access to 551 movies purchased on the PlayStation store

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

On Xbox I still have access to digital game copies I bought like 15 years ago. Never had an issue with them removing anything. But I also don't buy movies from them. I did however get the physical edition of Borderlands 4.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The thing is, they can revoke your access to the digital game copies at literally any time, and if you bought the wrong games, they have already.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I can still redownload my old Wii games so I feel like Nintendo at least has shown their digital games will be around for a long while.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Sure, I can reinstall CS (and I have done) on all my computers as Steam isn't tied to a single device; but my WON id from the cd key was even better as even without Internet I could install it - and even play LAN games from the same CD. I don't really see how Steam is better. I put off switching to Steam for a long time, but here we are. Plus, fuck valve for removing EAX support and true surround sound from CS.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You’ll spend 100$ get nothing and like it. And considering the number of preorders already made, rockstar is winning

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sure thing man, Here is your physical media with the download code on it. You still have to download the game over the internet. https://www.pcmag.com/explainers/switch-2-games-how-to-spot-game-key-cards-one-trick-to-avoid-them

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't forget the games with "Internet Required"
Like Doom Dark Ages, which only had 8MB on the disc, which was an authorization code for the rest. (Hogwarts Legacy, Doom Dark Ages, almost all Ubisoft games)

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All Nintendo did was make the warning that there is nothing on the disc/cartridge more prominent.
Look for the warning signs!

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Here’s what I’m going to do.
Wait for it to come out, then buy it, then play it. I think that’s all I really need to do.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same, but i'll do so 6 months or a year or longer after launch when all the bugs will be fixed. And it's probably cheaper.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sounds like a plan!

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Find a disc that handles 200+ GB. I’ll wait.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 22

they do exist up to 1.5tb, back in 2007 ish there was the tech for 3.9tb discs. but you know what happened? companies decied it was cheaper to go digital as it was way cheaper than retooling the production factories. companies would have to buy new recorders, people convinced to buy new players, it didnt happen for profits and people putting up wil old tech.

1 month ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Are you talking about the Sony Optical Disc Archive? It was a magazine of discs. That wouldn’t work for a game console. Putting it on a thumb drive would be cool but, then it leaves that avenue open for other nefarious means.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 13

HVD and Inphase. archive is the closest thing, they released. HD DVD was a former potential format with 15 tb vs the blueray they gave us. It feels like the VHS era problem. If you have a recordable format you can have your own copies as backups. and they have repeatly made attempts over the years to stop that. By forcing full digital that have basically stopped that, My new pc never came with a drive, I have to plug one in if I wanted to use one. why cant games come on SSD's.

1 month ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Yes because never in human history has a program taken more than one disc.. the stack of windows install floppies were all AI generated i suppose?

1 month ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

Hey, guess what? They don’t give a shit. They aren’t making and bitching won’t change that.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 19

Yes we know they don't give a shit. That's the problem, genius. No wonder you thought your original comment was some kind of gatcha

1 month ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

The entire industry doesn’t care. Sorry to break it to you.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 10

Ah I see you have barely any comments in the past 8 years. Obviously an alt account. Come back with your main if you want to talk. Muting this account.

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Yes we know they don't give a shit. You're not making any new points.

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The best part is that their stock owners are mad cuz the standard version is "only" $80, market took a dip since the projected profits went down from the expected $100 for standard.

1 month ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

I know better, but it would be wonderful if nobody bought it at launch and we all waited at least a year.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You don't have to lie about this stuff

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Except that graph proves his point. The stock dipped the day the price was announced because of greedy investors.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But its higher today than when the price was announced??

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You shouldn't post graphs and such that you don't know the context for.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I understand the context fully. The price went up the next day after prices were announced.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Investors/bankers have a shorter memory than gold fish. It's why the only job they're qualified for is stealing other people's money. A short memory helps with the guilt of fucking over innocent people. Similar to how police departments cap the intelligence of their cops.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What does short term memory have anything to do with the stock price going up after the price was announced?

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I hear ya, but I'd like to remind you that this guy is not a hero. The writer and director intended Foster to be an unhinged, violent antivillain. He's an asshole who shifts blame onto everyone else for problems he brought on himself. The whole reason he breaks down is because he can't see his daughter due to a restraining order brought on because he committed spousel abuse.

1 month ago | Likes 69 Dislikes 10

Not the hero. But the eventuality of unrestrained corruption.

Pfft you’ll tell me Fight Club wasn’t a movie about alpha males being badasses next.

1 month ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yup! This movie and Fight Club might be among the most misunderstood movies!

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He has a restraining order against him but we aren't shown that spousal abuse was the reason.

1 month ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Not to mention nice little racist dogwhistles throughout the film.

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I enjoy that movie but, yeah, he's another character people miss the point of by idolizing.

Like Scarface and Tyler Durden.

1 month ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Or Walter White

1 month ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Joker and Rick and Morty are a couple others I can think of

1 month ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Yeah, the discussion at the end really drives it home. "I'm the bad guy? How'd that happen?" "Hey, they lie to everyone. They lie to the fish. But that doesn't give you any special right to do what you did today."

I understand his motivations, but I don't agree with him.

1 month ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

That's what makes the story more compelling. We can empathize, we can understand how he got where he did. You can see him making the wrong choices, letting his emotions get the better of him, but everything is understandable to a degree.

1 month ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

But that reasoning IS the problem, 'How DARE you crash out realizing you're being cheated and stolen from by the system! How DARE you hold the system accountable for raping you of years of your life and then tossing you away so the rich can get richer! I know it, OTHER people know it, and we all just go home and carry on. Jesus if more people thought like you, we wouldn't even get President TRUMP 30 years from now if other people freaked out and got all selfish about expecting to be treated 1/?

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

fairly and with respect by the system. What you think you DESERVE to be treated like a human when you're not rich enough to buy authority and power? My dinners getting cold because I have to be here and explain to you that the system is unfair by design and we WILL punish or kill you for stepping out of line, I'm late getting home because I have to EXPLAIN that to you?'

Also don't forget they added in the 'spousal' abuse thing because initial test audiences were sympathizing too strongly 2/?

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

with the character so they had to give him some 'irredeemable' trait to make him just the 'unhinged asshole' instead of the guy crashing out from being taken advantage of by every system around him, originally his wife left him the MOMENT he lost his job, literally tossed him aside and took full custody of their daughter. The whole 'angry and lashing out' at the birthday party video was added in post production. 3/3

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

He doesn't really wind up fighting the system though, despite being angry with it. His ire isn't really directed at anything substantial, instead he just goes nuts and lashes out at anyone around him. He also suspiciously doesn't have any positive interactions with any people of color, instead they're lazy stereotypes. It just rides the 'angry white man' trope for two hours. It's understandable to identify with the sentiments but the film ultimately isn't that deep.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I get that and yeah his family problems are totally on him. I haven't seen it in awhile, but as I recall the final straw was being stuck in traffic in sweltering heat after getting laid off. Regardless of being an abusive asshole, I think many people simply identify with living on the edge and wishing they could do something about it. It doesn't excuse him, but I totally get why people look at him as a hero.

1 month ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 3

It wasn't right after getting laid off. They reveal later in the movie that he'd been let go months ago and he just never told anybody and went through the motions of going to work every morning.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks for the clarification. As I said, it's been awhile.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I had a friend in the 80s whose dad was caught in the first major IBM layoff and they went from being really well off to having to sell their house and significantly downgrade their life. The last we heard he was still having trouble finding a new job almost a year later.

In 93 when the movie was released we were coming to the end of 12 years of Reagan and Bush policies that started the destruction of the middle class. Now in 26 things are bleak and desperate for 90% of the population.

1 month ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

And who is our folk hero and mascot for all those suffering and/or recognizing the corruption of the system. Luigi did a horrible thing, but we laud him because we can relate and sympathize.

1 month ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

And because we wish more of us were that brave.

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

But with physical medai, we can only sell it to you once. With digital, we can revoke the license, and make you repurchase, dozens of times! Do you even care about shareholders and their yacht funds? Selfish.

1 month ago | Likes 101 Dislikes 5

To be fair, people have happily forked over $60 for each re-release of Skyrim every other year or so.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You can just change the form factor. Or literally just change the archive format from zip to rar or something for a disc based system.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

TBH I bought some music pieces on LP, CD and Cassette. so they sold it to me thrice.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fair point, but at least it was your decision to say "I want it in a new format" vs one day, all your LPs have been sanded smooth because the label decided to change licensing.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

True. This is why I Prefer still to use MD player and/or ipod. ALong my 1970 Technics record player, Doubledeck cassette player and a radio/amplifier. Hell I leave my phone home too. I usually take only a pocket camera and a music device. I haven't had sounds or vibration in my phone now in 15 years. What a relief that was when your days were completelly silent. Sometimes I get ghost vibrations in my thigh. I know it isn't real. It just feels like it.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There's no worry about selling multiple times, and you are fucked if your disc gets a scratch. Yes it's to kill leaks and used sales, but I'm not sure what people expect. The big three want GameStop dead and steam doesn't care.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The real reason is they don't want to spend money on the material for the physical media, its packaging, or shipping it. So they can help shareholders fund their next yacht.

1 month ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

From what I've heard you'll still get a box for GTA6, it's just empty.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Disc+plastic box+marginal cost for shipping in bulk to a retailer is a matter of cents. The material really isn't the reason they give you a digital code now. Especially when you consider running those servers to respond to the digital claim requests with expensive IT staff and a constant flow of energy also carries a price tag.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The real reason is *consumers* don't want to spend money on those things. Steam is the most loved game retailer and their the ones who pioneered digital games.

1 month ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Consumers had the "choice" thrust on them. The manufacturers of all these machines decided that the end user didn't need an optical media drive, which probably dripped down from Laptops & Apple. Less so but also, games were getting too big for DVDs and Blu-Ray support wasn't taking off

1 month ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

In the case of Steam? Nope, not correct.

I'd joined the bandwagon WAY late, there were still disks, readers and whatnot available.

But what convinced me was the ease Steam offered, the centralization and the obvious care they brought to the table.

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Not about Steam, but the hardware. DVD drives were becoming more and more optional in pre-built systems, which is the majority of the market, the consumers then rationalised that
