Some old racist goof is gonna cry for a transfer because they "Didn't Earn It"

Trump Admin: "DEI replace them with white people." Hospital Admin: "Right, qualified white people." Trump Admin: "What? We don't care about qualifications, look at our lawyers, in fact here are 5 of our friends who will take over their jobs." /s Honestly good job guys, people are indebted to surgeons like you for saving lives, and the nurses let's not forget them, and you all simply don't get enough recognition!

I hope I never need their services. Not for any awful reasons, just because I hope I don't need surgery from anyone.

6 months ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Well I mean particularly trauma surgery. That's like shootings and car crashes try to keep you alive surgery

“Oh please, I smoked pot with John Hopkins”
“You don’t know anyone by that name”
“Yeah I do mom! Johnny Hopkins and Sloan Kettering, they were blazing that shit up everyday after school!

Congratulations to the team, and yay for progress! I just wanted to throw out one of my favorite Step Brothers quotes

This is going to really upset the President when Fox News tells him about it.

Wait until they figure out they don't all sound like White Americans.

6 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

standing in front of Vivien Thomas too. Who was so badass, he became one of the best surgeons in history without formal medical education.

6 months ago | Likes 64 Dislikes 0

I recall a good movie about him, "Something the Lord Made" (2004). Alan Rickman's in it, as the white doctor who recognized Thomas' talent, in a very racist time.

6 months ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

Thx for the recommendation! Never would’ve heard of it

6 months ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

I just listened to a SYSK podcast about the guy who said JH was the best hospital and also was very racist about black doctors in 1910. This guy did good and bad rating medical schools. Not hospitals. But they were tied together. Probably set black doctors back a lot. But also set some standards for doctors in general. It was a mixed outcome apparently. And yeah for these people! Sorry he was racist *uck too.

"this is dei" - magats

6 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

If a white Republican sees this, they're gonna have white knuckle syndrome, muttering "DEI... DEI..." under their breath.

That's their racism disease, for which they want no cure.

6 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

This is like when RBG was asked when will there be enough female scotus justices and she said “when there are 9.”

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

LOL why is this downvoted? Are dummies assuming I’m a dude and that I’m suggesting this is a bad thing? My username says “Mrs” to avoid this exact problem.

FINALLY some good news!

6 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

That's so awesome! I bet they will inspire so many young kids to feel empowered to follow in their footsteps

6 months ago | Likes 109 Dislikes 3

Listen, don't let the government know. They will shut that shit down with a vengeance if they hear the blacks are being successful somewhere.

6 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Count down till the fat pedo cuts their funding for 'DEI". 'We can't let monkeys cut up humans!'... /s?

Go Hop!

I wish this would've been the headlines: "Meet the exceptional team saving lifes everyday at John Hopkins Trauma Unit." The existing headline still makes a bigger deal of their skin color than their years of education, dedication, commitment to patients, and personal sacrifices they had to make along the way.

6 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

I think your heart is in the right place and I want to live in a world where that should be the headline, but you're talking about aiming for a superficial equality when the reality is that the average black American is starting from a worse position than the average white American, not because of some inherent quality but because of the systems around them. What this is celebrating is the fact that not only did they become some of the top MDs in the US, they did it on hard mode.

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

While that's true the matter of the fact is that their skin color was likely the biggest impediment at any step of the process to get where they are today. Plenty of highly skilled ethnic people never get the positions they're qualified for because of their skin color. So this isn't about diminishing their skills, it's about highlight that the times are changing and that skin color becomes less and less of a problem.

I look forward to a day when stuff like this is no longer news worthy. A time when we just see five people.

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Huh. Guess a bunch of MAGA will be skipping JH because of these “DEI” hires. We should have let them find out AFTER though. Seriously, I wish, in this day and age, things like this were not history changing. No offense to these amazing and hardworking people, but we should have been beyond this by now…and to make matters worse, we have to stare at just how little progress the US has made in centuries.

6 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I knew a case of a white man who had emergency surgery at JH and learned upon waking up that the surgeon who saved him was black. This seemed to cause some kind of spiritual epiphany for the man in which he recognized how his previous racism was harmful even to himself...which he expressed excitedly over the course of half an hour to the next black person he saw (the unit assistant who was bringing him a cup of water). She was bemused.

Mumbo.... Number 5?

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

DEI: check. Noice. But this will also directly safe poc lives. Still, if the male surgeons are capable of transferring their own discriminatory experiences into not letting women die on the table remains to be measured (most likely noone will bother to do so. No, I'm not crazy. Women do die significantly more under male surgeons. (And from medicine developed around a male default. And from being not diagnosed. Because no one takes them seriously. Tons of studies on that.)

6 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Do you think they would if I slipped them $20? Or do you think I’d have to get surgery?

I’ve been here so long and this is taking forever

When you benefit from inequality, equality looks like oppression to you.

God damn look at you pathetic losers, complaining about white people so much, why don't you go live in a middle eastern shit hole and see how good it is there

We made a black man president and all the racists came out to elect the most corrupt, brain-dead, racist pedophile they could find. Twice.

6 months ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 3

No. Russia, and their Republican agents, elected Trump as president. Both culpable parties admit to it. Stop this blaming of The People. That's way too convenient for the fascists. We are a nation under siege. Russia and their American agents PUT Trump in power. He was not elected by the American People, nor was this election a free or fair election. Do not do the work of the enemy for them. Stop blaming common American citizens for Russia winning the Cold War.

6 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 5

jordan klepper has not spent all that time covering trump rallies just so people can absolve trump supporters of their role in this. trump has a bedrock foundation just above 30%. the voter manipulation helped trump get enough to push him over the top. but it doesn't get you there by itself

you can find plenty of people making hateful or racist remarks all on their own. so i say stop making excuses for common american citizens who chose racism, bigotry, hate and greed

6 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

No, you don't understand. This level of corruption goes all the way down to the local level. I have a clip recorded from my city council where somebody yawned during a meeting, then somebody said "What are you, sleepy Joe Biden?" Everybody laughed, then carried on business as usual. This level of corruption goes all the way down to people walking amongst the streets. The people who make decisions. The people who write rules and laws. All the way to the bottom. As far up and down as it can get.

6 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Fuck no. You fucked and you need to admit to your wrongs, just like Germans did

6 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It can be both. Sorry things are a little bit nuanced.

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And the problem is??????

It’s like saying omg a female pilot flew a plane.

Could just have said a pilot or a surgeon.

I’m actually revolted by your responses.

Down vote all you like as if it affects my life

Maybe I didn’t explain properly what I meant.

They are fantastic honorable human beings that happen to be black or women which for some reason needs to pointed out
Why are even pointing this out???????????

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A quote from Dr. Joycelyn Elders. Professor emerita of pediatrics at the University of Arkansas, vice admiral, and the first Black person as well as the second woman to serve as surgeon general. She started out as a nurse's aide despite having a B.S. in biology because she didn't know that Black women could aim higher (and at the time it would have been very difficult too).

6 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

All of my respect to them

6 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Not sure if you grasp the significance of something like this.
Only 5.4% of surgeons are black. That fact that 5 of them are at John Hopkins is very remarkable.

6 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

Johns Hopkins is one of the largest hospitals in the country with over 2,000 doctors working at the hospital alone. I would fuckin hope they've had more than 5 black surgeons for a long time. The significance here is that they have enough black surgeons working in the hospital that they're able to have their entire emergency trauma surgery team be made of black trauma surgeons for a full shift/set.
