Hello, just venting and wanted to write it down. Had a job for a couple of years earned my masters degree was on 2nd shift looking to stay at the company but could not get 1st shift for over 2 years. Finally started looking and got a job at another company same title production supervisor on 1st shift with a little more money. Now same issue no room to grow or move up. For a year have been applying for production manager positions at my current company and other companies. Keep getting turned down due to not having production manager experience. Everytime i am able i ask what can i do and just say i have not had the title production manager title.
Job I thought was going to work out, nailed the interview was feeling really good about it, less than 10 min from my house. With plenty of benifits. Just got told same thing. Loved you but you do not have production manager experience.
The grind of applying online as most probally already know is dread full. Do not know what i can do more to get a manager position or a step up from what i am doing.
Guess hop online and apply for another couple hundred positions.
Tldr: curently production sup got masters degree could not get 1st or promotion. Left job for a 1st shift job. Stuck at production sup with no way up. Feeling the dread.

Here's the thing. You can lie on your resume. If you're qualified and just don't have the title, then just change the title of your current job on your resume to that. It gets around the stupidity that is your exact situation.

Until they actually check references. And for a manager position they absolutely should...and you don't want to work for a company who doesn't do that due diligence

Depending on what type of management your skillset involves you might be able to find work as a project manager for companies that do contractor work. It's basically stuff like scheduling work/tests, ordering materials, working with the customer and other contractors to coordinate work, etc.
The company I work for, Convergint, (and yes that's spelled correctly) always seems to be hiring project managers and has offices all over the US and in several other countries around the globe.

Joking aside, PM is a high burnout position due to external deadline pressure and internal bottomline pressure. That sucks and is incredibly frustrating! Maybe massage some of your experience into being classified as "production manager" experience. Work that was in spirit production manager work. So even if you don't have the title, you can say you have experience doing that kind of work. Sometomes hiring managers just need to be able to check a box.

This is honestly exactly the way. You need to massage your resume better to fit the role. Think of it this way, it's a test of the system that a manager needs to pass: do you understand the corporate structure well enough to game and exploit it for your own advancement. Every time you reapply for a job that demands experience and do not find a way to fudge that experience, you are demonstrating a failure to manipulate the hiring system.
It's not a good thing and shouldn't be this way, but...
