Though you ought to include the disclaimer: Whatever you want to do as long as it doesn't cause harm or deprive anyone of life, safety, or long-term happiness.
This is actually what Zen Buddhism is about. Stuff doesn't have any inherent meaning or value, but that's a good thing because it means you don't have to take everything so seriously all the time.
Always the people with privilege preaching to the less fortunate about how meaningless life is. Meanwhile, let my college educated ass sing to you from my hotel pool while I tap some keys on my $650 electronic keyboard. Then watch me sip my champagne as I scroll through my instagram feed to read all the praise I get from the collectively stupid. Oh, how I hate this pretentious bullshit.
I like the song and understand the meaning, BUT....theoretically we COULD be the only life. That in itself is a scary thought - to be UNIQUE in a universe of trillions upon trillions. Also, technically the meaning of life is "to create more of itself"...take that how you want.
my reply. You all get it in text because i cant sing worth a damn. - We're not specs in the universe, we're a part of it. Just look to the sky and you will see. Dont think of yourself as insignificant. The Universe makes up you and me. We’re more than just a fleeting spark, So when you feel lost and small, Each one of us leaves a mark. we're a piece of the puzzle of all. 1/2
If you had it, Would you take the chance? To make it better, this cosmic dance? Reach out a hand, lift someone from the fall, Together we stand strong, we'll rise above it all. 2/2
Geology 1001 was a class that put things into perspective for me. Seeing that, on the timeline of earth's existence, the rise and prominence of mankind is just a TINY little blip. If you step back and look at a wide view, we're humblingly insignificant creatures.
I think given the number of us and the extent of out technological prowess, I suspect that our evolutionary chain will continue until the end of the living universe. Provided that is, we can get off this rock before we get wiped out. Question is, will there be only one evolution chain, or will we branch off into different species?
Actually this is exactly how I view everything. Optimistic nihilism is a nice way of putting it. I’m exceedingly kind to others not because I think kindness is right, but because kindness is created. I live my best life because it’s a gift to exist and not need to fulfill any cosmic purpose.
Alas, I'm pretty new to the field and only have experience in Oregon so far. I can recommend general advice like looking for a therapist who specializes in the work you want to do, set up a chemistry call (some offer this for free to find a good fit), and don't feel like you have to stick with someone if you feel like they really aren't the right match.
“If there's no great glorious end to all this, if nothing we do matters... , then all that matters is what we do. 'Cause that's all there is. What we do. Now. Today. All I wanna do is help. I wanna help because, I don't think people should suffer as they do. Because, if there's no bigger meaning, then the smallest act of kindness is the greatest thing in the world.”
I do recommend it. Like anything, it is a product of its time, it is quite intelligent for a show called “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”. Wiity, clever, some very good acting, good allegory. Made a big impact on Tv and movies, MCU movie humour can be traced back to here cause of Joss Whedon.
It also turns out it was a very toxic set, and there is some disturbing tv in here. I would suggest watching s1-s2, as it takes till s2 to really find its feet, then decide if its really right for you.
I was at a stage a couple years back where I was committing passive suicide and my therapist couldn't believe the things I was doing. I have since embraced the absurdism of it all and just live to make myself feel happy. I'm not living for anyone else but myself. Be kind if you want. Help if you feel it so. Nothing matters in the end. Just enjoy the time you're here.
The whole idea of ‘everyone has to be happy and positive in this specific way’ is kind of toxic in my opinion. Life is NEVER going to be all happiness. Things are gonna suck. If you’ve found a way to make them not suck quite as much, or at least are embracing the suck age, as long as it doesn’t make you want to off yourself, I don’t see the problem
I would show this video to them, and mention how to you it feels like a breath of fresh air, or just a feeling of even slight relief from the constant feeling of dread of life or stress of society.
As rough as things get, if I died tomorrow, I feel good about the contributions I have made to others. And by others I mean cats. I’ve helped a lot of cats. That’s given my life all the meaning that I need.
I hope not, as most of the cats I’ve helped have been adopted by other people- though honestly I’d be honored if they all broke out of their homes to come to my funeral!
I was meant to die in 2020, I'm literally only still alive because I promised my cat I wouldn't die before her so yeah. Spending my overtime helping cats as much as possible because I tried to help humans but they just take and take and take.
It's the latter though I might as well have a terminal illness.
I have a multitude of incurable disabilities that will only get worse the older I get. I will never live a life where I'm not relying on other people to help me with the most basic of things and there is nothing I can do about it. I keep active, I eat healthy but this does nothing. I'm in an out of hospital all the time. Helping animals is a nice distraction but I do not want to be here, I only live for her.
Well I hope you are able to choose your death with grace and dignity. I certainly don’t know enough about your situation to judge but I support assisted suicide for people who cannot have a good quality of life. Same as I do for cats, dogs, etc.
Thank you, I'm hoping to be able to get on the programme but only after my cat is gone. I'm hoping more countries see sense, I don't understand why it's not an option it just makes no sense to me. People are so quick to put a pet to sleep when the big C is mentioned or they have a disability, but we make humans suffer and don't give them that option.
Anyway, my cat just turned 16 and is completely healthy according to the vets, so I guess she wants me to stick around a bit longer ^^'

Our planet formed roughly 4.6 BILLION years ago. Life began about 3.7 BILLION years ago. Humans are an insiginificant speck in that time.
