It's insane that these things can even get off the ground.

Still only 10" of leg room.
can't wait for super economy version after Emirates ditches them. How about 8 inches leg room for 1000 cattle class suckers! no washrooms.

Did someone say A380?

This makes me moist.

Comment just below talking about flaps too, must be gap time!

Amazingly, there's talk of restarting production on these babies. Prolly won't happen, though.

I could see them restoring a bunch that airlines sent to desert graveyards. It could be faster than waiting on new planes to be built.
ExecutorHideo
Except them sitting out in the elements and not being maintained would make the airframe FULL of safety issues. Likely cheaper to start over

They're stored in arid regions and the storage yards follow manufacturer recommendations for regular maintenance. Storage is fine.

Wife & daughter flew an A380, from Europe...didn't know the airline but it said "BA-A380"....then I realized "BA = Big A S S !!!"

British airways maybe?
Yes, you are correct.....it didn't come to me until I saw the plane actually landing before my eyes for Arrival time!

..they show the wake turbulence. Absolutely worth it.

See the downward vortex left by the wings ? It is dangerous for other airplanes, hence the separation of a couple minutes between the 1/2
heavy airplanes taking off or landing, and the following lighter airplanes.

Can somebody explain the forward "flaps" to me? I've never seen control surfaces on the forward section of the wing.
TheKnightsWhoSayEkkiEkkiEkkiEkkiPtangZoomBoing
Leading edge slats. They perform the same function as flaps, i.e. increase the wing's area to allow increased lift during low speed flight.

On my bucket list. That and a Dreamliner

2020 claimed another one.

They’re still flying & will for another 15-20 years, just not building any more new ones.
737pilot
Lifespan of an A380 is 15 years or less. Last production was given to emirates. 2030’s or sooner for them to be done.
They had planned '000's more before 2035. 2020 stopped it and reduced current orders - making it unviable. No new 747's after 2022: similar
ralphmelish
They're auctioning off their parts now, if you want a piece.
I'm going to need a bigger boat...
(I literally just booked a flight on one yesterday)

Hell yeah, nice! Hope you enjoy it. Sadly, I don’t think I’ll ever fly a quad again in my life.

Such a comfy ride

I still want to fly on this beauty before they all go but I can't afford to travel and I'll never be able to afford the nice classes.
jamesdeanshat
I went business once. Nice bathrooms and they had a bar with some seatbelts to chill at but it was near the cabin doors/toilets.
I want to do the really high classes. The ones where people just drop the price of a small sedan without flinching.
PballQhead
The 380 is fucking ugly. It looks like a fat, squinty man. It lacks the elegant, yet large, beauty that made the 747 outlast it. Fight me.
CeterumCenseo
That's true. One of the reasons for that is, that the vertical stabilizer and wings are unusually large, since they were designed for the >>
>> even bigger (i.e. longer) version of the A380, which was never built.
they are a huge flying greyhound bus designed by computer, the closer you get, the more ugly. Side on not bad, front or rear, flying mutant.
Blackfinity
I'll offer you a beer and a fist-bump in solidarity my man. I'll take the slim-waisted 747 over the gelatinous '380 any day.
One was designed, the other was just…built.

you should see the AC-130... so big, the wings got tires
