My practical experience with the 7.62 RK-62 (Finnish made variant of the Kalashnikov) is that an empty clip will go in and seem to be locked in place, but can drop out exactly like this with little provocation. Always check that the lock engages.
I was standing an armed watch on my ship, carrying a 9mil handgun. About halfway through my watch I realized the magazine was only half seated. Just quietly tapped that into place, no one knows. <_<
Nyah, a CO is FAR too busy to light up some mudfoot. But the staff sergeant? He'll be putting in over time chewing this kid out. And that's if he is in a good mood. If he's in a bad mood, he'll counsel the kids corporal and maybe squad leader as well for failing to uphold training standards
