Epigenetic isn't the opposite of genetic, and I'm pretty sure they do actually mean epigenetic considering it's theorised that epigenetics plays an important part in the shaping of instinct.

Epigenetics is an explanation for heritable changes in gene expression, where there's no change in DNA. The classic example is: if you experience famine not only can you get diabetes, but you can also pass a risk of developing diabetes onto your kids, even if they don't experience famine. I have no idea how "looking at a fire is nice" could have anything to do with epigenetics.

The two aren't unrelated. There's no real genetic benefit to being fascinated by fire, at least nothing that would be coded into the genome. If there is any inherited trait like that, it'd almost certainly be some expression of existing traits that gets written when someone encounters fire for the first time, either fascination or fright.
That said, I doubt there's any real explanation for it beyond "fire warm, mmm comfy".

We have new squirrels in the tree outside of our kitchen window. Watching them chase each other around the tree is almost enough to forgive them for constantly hoarding all the bird food.
(I feed the squirrels too! They just try to eat what I give the birds first, then move on to what I put out for them)

Someone’s going to call you creepy but I get this! There’s a little green space for my neighborhood outside my office window and sometimes there are kiddos with their parents having a ball and it’s so wholesome. But more often people like to play fetch with their dogs out there and I zone out sometimes just watching them run back and forth.
