next month I'll upgrade my cpu from a ryzen 5 3600 to a ryzen 7 5700x (wont buy the 5800x cuz I would have to buy a water cooling system too and I dont have the 100€ to spare).
IF (big, big if) I find 32gb ddr4 at a reasonable price (ie less than 200€) then I'll upgrade that one too.
Otherwise the 5700x and my rx6650xt will have to carry my gaming until this shit explode. As luck want, my games arent really hard of requirement: I usually play genshin impact with some side of palworld.

If anything, this is going to make the bubble grow even bigger. There's been rumors for a while now about it. Nvidia keeps denying it, just to agree with it in the most roundabout way. They say they're not cutting on production of consumer grade GPUs, just that they are prioritizing enterprise GPUs.
So no, they're not stopping production of RTX, they just plan on not making many because they want to do more AI shit. A distinction without a difference.

Just buy 2nd hand shit. Old gen cards can use fsr2/3 1080 gaming is perfectly fine. And lossless lets you utilize a 2nd card for frame generation. Its time to get creative and stop being consumer whores let them fail with open ai. Its not making money its a money pit. And when they fail we shouldn't reward them. Something else always takes its place.

Lots of ppl just dont know how to adjust thier graphics settings. I still run my phenomII with an old card in a retro pc and you would be suprised how many games it runs flawlessly. And fsr support goes back to gtx 9xx. Cards. Most ppl dont run games past 1080 let alone 1440. Especially if you play competitive games. Usually you kill whatever settings are hogging bandwidth.

This isn't entirely accurate. Many Silicon Valley billionaires have "reserved" the wafer boards for future use. It's like going to a farmer and putting a promissory note for 75% of whatever his crop yields - it hasn't grown yet and money hasn't exchanged hands yet, but 75% of that crop is already off the market so the remaining 25% will be massively inflated because of this.

well its more or less the case, the big data centres that are currently being built need so much ram that the price for the good data centre ram has skyrocketed, so producers make only that now because thats where the money is, so now there is a shortage of "normal" ram for my new gaming PC too, so that also got expensive, so i will have to wait a few months...all because of the stupid AI bubble...

No, it'll be more like a worse version of the dotcom crash, with the likely subsequent rebuild of industries using their assets. The damage will mostly be limited to one sector of the economy (though it'll be much bigger damage). OpenAI going bankrupt would be very different from Fannie Mae going bankrupt. There might still be bailouts, but more due to corruption than to prevent economic disaster.
But even if it happened tomorrow, RAM prices wouldn't go down for another couple years.

AI being forced into corporations has always been the goal and with all the money CEOs and Silicon Valley billionaires are flooding into AI, it's already being pushed all over the corporate world. This is why you no longer speak to a real person for customer service or chat with an agent online. It's all chatbots now.

The corporation I work for has tried to use AI for inventory management, pipeline monitoring, drive cam monitoring, district security, as well as many other little things that used to be managed by people just fine.

Honestly, though? There are only like 3 manufacturers of RAM. Lots of vendors all sourcing their chips from the same places. I hope this is a wake up call for others to enter the sector...even though it's tremendously difficult and expensive. Situations like this are what helps create a healthier market down the line. You have to go through times like this to realize you were in an untenable oligopoly. Need others to see dollar signs and opportunity and break in.

Yep. Offhand, I recall a half-dozen major memory shortages due to flooding, earthquakes, contamination… and each time various government talk about how vital it is to build more chip foundries.
Then the market recovers a little bit, and those crazy-expensive foundry plans get shelved, and we sit back and wait for the next disaster.

They really haven’t. What the bubbles have actually done is show that the market ISN’T willing to bear the obscene price hikes. Only small, niche markets like cryptobros and scalpers actually pay the hiked prices in the regular market, and AI is the biggest point of sale in the bulk market. Scalpers were shut down so hard during their whole thing that they were getting actual news coverage over how much they were complaining about unsold stock even.

When the AI bubble pops, and it will pop, not deflate, you’ll see price crashes as the tech futures market (meaning contracted but now unused production) causes massive oversupply and enormous issues for production companies that now have to contend with (theoretical) billions in unused product that their largest bulk buyers now don’t want and refuse to pay for.

Everyone just get a nice comfy screen. 1080p/1440p. And use that GPU as long and hard as you can now. Right before this all exploded I bought a 9060XT as a sidegrade from my 3070ti so I would keep more performance moving to Linux. My fiancee is rocking my old 5700XT still and its doing just fine for everything she plays. If the newest games won't run on my card I will simply not buy them. Either optimize for the hardware we have or watch all that work produce 0 profit for the shareholders.

No, but part of the push for AI is to build infrastructure for cloud computing at the same time. Soon they will use the excuse that big companies are the only ones that can afford computing and ram power, so we should all just buy dummy terminals and log into a data centers servers and rent computing time off them. I remember the good old days when I was able to walk into a retailer and pay $1300 CAD for a 1080ti. This was after I sold my 1070 to upgrade during the crypto boom. It was a premium price for sure but it got me a decade of 1440p gaming
Now they are talking about a 5090 being 5k usd in the future.....

Its encouragement for the AI bubble to pop. Nvidia and a bunch of AI companies and data centers are passing around large sums of "I owe you's" with the belief that AI will make enough money to actually make good on those IOUs. But AI isnt profitable right now and most likely won't be in the next 2-4 years when the RAM chips will need to be replaced again (requiring a bunch more money).
