Stuff like this infuriates me at our current congress, senators, Governors, City Mayors, Judges, press heads and any elected officials who claim they are "fighting for us", but don't speak up, and think they need to come at this like they need to compromise. Trump is the most thin skinned man in the world. Yet most don't stand up to him. I don't understand what they are afraid of. He's not difficult at all to expose more and more until he can finally be toppled.

I would just like to point out that while at the moment this is a valid criticism of Trump’s admin, historically this is ironic as hell.
The Vatican has switched what it heralds as “God’s will” times to fit their political agenda at the time.
Remember the witch hunts, for instance? That was to prevent women from gaining independence in the patriarchal society.
The crusades? Suddenly ok to kill 9 million people. But god forbid you kill your rapist. That’s a sin.

I’ve lived in Poland my whole life. It’s a very religious country. One of the most religious in Europe.
I’m 33. I have yet to see any actual growth or evolution from that organization and the community. They are all just as bigoted and hateful and ignorant as they were 30 years ago.
I’m bisexual, leftist, feminist and atheist. I also like Halloween. I’ve been an object of hate and ridicule and exclusion my whole life.
No progress has been made, trust me.

The pope saying this is damn hilarious. Let me explain on the example of my country, Poland. They own over 140 pieces of hugely expensive real estate in the middle of our former historic capitol, Kraków. When they want to buy something new they usually get it for a dime. They influence elections and use propaganda from the pulpit to polarize right wingers. They intentinally hide instances of child abuse by moving priests around using the "sanctity of confession" bullshit etc.

It's not about forgetting, it's about recognising some kind of progress in the face of an organisation that isn't going away any time soon. You can appreciate that this pope is better than previous popes and still recognise that there are a ton of problems within the Catholic church.

Yes, and fixing the problems of the Church is not something so simple that a single person can do it.
It will take a very long time to weed out all the people involved in covering it up.
Because despite what many think, it's not the entire organisation involved with it, they have their own Peado network that covers for each other within the church. So actually purging them all can be hard because it is still hidden from many of the higher ups.
