It's not that exciting but I'm kind of proud.
Edit: Thank you to everyone that offered kind words, I really appreciate the validation. I called my mom to tell her the good news but she told me that my that my brother was put on a 72hr psychiatric hold this afternoon. I'll tell her later, it doesn't matter today.
Update edit; its been 3 weeks. I still haven't told my mom about my promotion I don't think I will. Being the youngest, I am frequently labeled as attention seeking and that's the opposite of my goals rn. My brother was experiencing auditory hallucinations, delusions, and paranoia. He's still in-patient at the mental health facility. Dr.s think he's possibly dealing with schizoaffective disorder and substance use disorder. They recommended residential treatment until he can establish continuity of a treatment plan. He asked if he could move in with us instead because he cant be that far away from his wife and kids. But he says he can't live with his wife and kids because they're the source of his stress. My husband has a small whiskey and weapon/gun collection (his hobbies are hunting, blacksmithing, & axe throwing). I fear that my brother is still a danger to himself and others and wouldn't want him to be alone in this house. He also hates dogs and we have two. My mom recommend that we sell my husband's swords, axes, and guns to pay to board our dogs and make room for my brother for a few months. It's really putting me in a tough spot between my born family and my chosen family. Idk what to do. What's the right thing to do? I can't just throw him out on the streets!

You put the colors wrong. So I'm gonna have to let you go.

100% agreed, and a follow-up good on that employer... Not every employer recognizes exp/performance appropriately

Yep, work in IT with a grade 11 education and held many unrelated jobs and mostly self taught. Everyone I work with has a degree in IT.

Red is rad, blue is bad. You should have the colors switched
SybilCrawley
I just joined in December, sorry! It's rad that I've never paid student loans but bad because I feel like an imposter.

Just because you don't have a $40,000 piece of stationery doesn't mean you don't know your stuff

As someone with a graduate degree in a field but no career, congrats on getting your foot in you've damn well earned it!
softlittlebite
Congratulations. It does matter, but I get ya. Hope your bro gets some help and starts to heal.

How are you feeling about your bro being on psychiatric hold? You doing ok?
SybilCrawley
Honestly? I'm relieved to know he's safe right now. His wife is having a rough time, I offered to babysit but she said that would be worse.
leodavinci1
Congratulations... and condolences. Hope everything works out ok.
poonanitsunami
Congrats OP hope your brother is okay.

Similar situation in IT here. It goes a long way being self taught in a field and being recognized for it. I'm a Director with a HS diploma
SitsLikeDog
Same situation, but imposter syndrome cripples me sometimes
deaththeunholy
It did me for years, until I met someone that was further down the path and told me to just go big... Eventually it stuck but it took work
sadurdaynight
A lot of IT / IS is cert-based. Degree helps to move into management. I got a Masters in Info Sys. Can't get jobs b/c lack certs, and 1/
sadurdaynight
since I've never been promoted to management before, nobody wants to take a chance hiring me as a team lead. Currently doing cont ed./

I guess I'm just blind to autocratic rules lol. Sorry, I just joined in December so I have no idea what I'm doing. But thank you!!

Don't worry, lots of people get the colors mixed up.

Go tell your mother. Few things cheer up parents more than the accomplishments of their children.

I know that a real-estate agent in the next city over who exclusively hired and trained unskilled agents (1/2)
zappyguy
Because all the trained people kept setting prices too high and NEVER moving any property. Let's say he displaced the market in 5 years. (2)
kiley3137
Happened for me last year. I suffer low self esteem though and feel bad most times as all my teammates could have my role and qualified.
kiley3137
I’m still glad for my pay bump though and I’m being acknowledged.
bocheta
Wrong way round, but congrats!

Honestly this one I can see going either way

Someone with a degree would have got it right....
SybilCrawley
They're too busy struggling under the weight of their crushing debt.

@OP Red is rad, blue is bad.
Override9636
Red is socially awesome, blue is socially awkward. @OP should have used Courage Wolf.
SybilCrawley
Never paying student loans is pretty rad if you ask me. But feeling like an imposter..not so much.
CeterumCenseo
@OP looks pretty sus!
hestajoe756

Mechame
Formally educated people feel imposter syndrome too.
chammey
There are imposters with uni degrees... And a degree in IT is 80% googling anyway
