Voting always allows for abstention, which is just not voting. In congress they do it by saying "present" instead of yes/no.
At any rate, org bylaws don't typically regulate when someone can leave a meeting, and also define what the number or type of people are required to be present to allow official business to take place, known as a quorum.
Without a quorum, no votes are considered binding. So when she walked, they dipped below the required amount to have a quorum, nixing the vote entirely.
