I find it funny when people attack her over being arrested, saying "she's only doing it for attention!" and I'm like, that's the point of protesting, isn't it? Protests aren't about being ignored. If you're a high profile person attending a protest and you get arrested, the protest gets attention in the news and on social media. Police carrying off Greta in front of cameras is a highly effective media strategy.
I saw Greta in real life! When she came to Bristol, UK. The march she was leading passed by, just as I was leaving Greggs with a sausage roll, steak bake and donut.. I got a genuine Greta frown, proper Paddington Bear style! I could see her judging me... I haven't eaten a sausage roll or steak bake since.
She actually browbeat her own parents into becoming vegetarians. Advocating against climate change is admirable, but in that respect she's a terrorist!
I would rather be rioting and getting shot for something I believe in rather than keep working for my fuckass job for healthcare and the ability to live
I swear they just arrest her now because of her reputation. All famous protestors in human history get arrested for speaking their mind against govt. peaceful or not.
Why do you think the police would be against this in the UK? They are simply doing their job. Shit, they might support her cause, too. Still gotta do their jobs.
When you do just enough to get arrested, but not because of anything outrageous enough to lose popular support, AND not illegal enough to get jail time.
I hope she wears stuff with lots of pockets so when she gets searched it takes them lots of extra time and that they have to search every single pocket.
The school strike she started all alone has inspired many to join her, and many across the globe to follow her example. She's already been wildly successful in mobilizing many for this cause.
Greta doesnt fuck around, and she doesn't shy away from the front lines. She doesnt hypocritically fly in jet planes everywhere to speak about climate issues like all the politicians do. She's a true activist. Now she is getting arrested, so much +respect points in my book. Same thing when I learned about Bernie Sanders being arrested at civil rights protests decades ago, if your activism never gets you arrested, you're probably not doing enough. Greta is legit.
Whilst generally I agree, "I like x because they piss off the people I don't like" is a train of thought that led directly to the current culture wars obsessed right wing types getting into power everywhere
Right but the context is this: nobody, even the politicians that claim they will make good climate policy, are actually doing fuck all to improve the climate situation. So the "establishment" is willing to let us and all future generations die in an uninhabitable wasteland, and greta is going against that. In this context, pissing off the establishment is the righteous and morally correct action to take.
There's a big difference in what each group considers "the establishment", though. For one group it's applied to science-denying profit-driven corporate-owned death cult fascists, and for the other it's a buzzword used to attack legitimate experts. And this is backed up by verifiable facts.
Time is running out. The few who take the problem seriously argue that drastic measures are needed to make any difference. We can be glad that they just protest (yet). Time will tell if that is enough.
Whilst I generally agree (love this for a comment reply I’m taking it, perfect amount of sass) what if that group of people are ignoramus-bigots sleepwalking into fascist and destructive policies?
I feel like "sleep-walking" gives the Tories far too much credit. They're charging in eyes wide open, they just have more barriers to their takeover than America's hellscape does.

They arrested 26 people. It's not like they picked out one person. But saying Joe blogs was arrested doesn't get people talking.

How was the sausage roll? I live in the US near Philadelphia. Any good pics?

The details of your Greggs order made me happy, and I'm sorry for your loss.

I was having a bad day. Normally I just go for the steak bake and donut. But the sausage roll is good to eat on the way back to the office.

Once again, showing the police are just another enforcement for the status quo, not the public at large.
I mean, how dare she want to fight to make sure people can breathe clean air, drink clean water, and have a habital area for safe agriculture.
The nerve of her directly affecting short term profits that mean nothing if the planet dies.

British police are so polite.
Grimmy32
If you're not drunk and in their face, generally yes. Useless at helping when you get robbed, though.
MutinusElegans
It's okay, theft is a victimless crime so they don't need to be helpful then, either. /s
