Triangulation is an incredibly powerful tool for distributing forces evenly among contact points, almost every large scale bridge and older box and truss bridges use them all over the place. See: Arthur Ravenel Bridge, Don Holt Bridge and the Grace and Memorial bridges that the Ravenel replaced in Charleston, SC

We use the same design for everything from roller coaster track pylons, residential roof structures and lots more. Granted, this video only shows a very basic implementation.

The fun part is you can keep that pattern going to do even longer bridges. Downside is the arch gets bigger too, so it's only SO practical. But still neat!

Those bridges are impressive, but they're not the same kind of bridge. The article you linked says the Chinese bridges use carpentry joints to hold the beams together. Da Vinci's little bridge design only uses the friction of the different pieces, with no joints.

Additionally, the Chinese bridges are anchored. The Da Vinci bridge here is not anchored at all and only held in place by gravity.
